Throughout A.P. Psychology, there will be 14 Units, each having a duration of approximately 8-12 school days (1.5-2.5 weeks) . For each Unit in A.P. Psychology, you will be required to complete a Unit Outline.
Unit Outlines for each unit will be due on the day following the Unit Test of the previous unit. (For example, if the Unit 1 Test is today, the Unit 2 Outline will be due tomorrow.) o Unit Outlines will be checked/collected for credit, and will be returned promptly as additional material for you to study for Tests/Quizzes.
The goals of Unit Outlines are to have you explore and think critically about the course material outside of class, to develop and expand your note-taking skills, and for you to be prepared, and have an understanding of course material before it is presented in class.
Unit Outlines should contain the following elements: o For each textbook sub-heading (indicated by a question in the textbook) you should create and answer 2-3 additional complex/open-ended (not one-word answer) questions based on the information provided. This will allow you to read thoroughly, and think more deeply about the content that you are exploring.
For example, the Prologue contains 6 sub-headings
For example, Chapter 1 contains 14 sub-headings:
Each sub-heading begins with a question that can be answered within that section. o The first sub-heading in the Prologue is
“Psychological Science is Born” and is followed by the question “When and how did psychological science begin?” o The first sub-heading in Chapter 1 is “The Need for Psychological Science ,” and is followed by the question “Why are the answers that flow from the scientific approach more reliable than those based on intuition and common sense?”
Create and respond to 2-3 additional questions that can also be answered within that section (“Psychological
Science is Born,” “The Need for Psychological Science”) , and repeat this for each additional sub-heading. Your responses should be detailed and complex, incorporating information (terms, concepts, theories, people) that you learned about in that section.
Unit Outlines should be typed: o All questions/answers should be written in complete sentences. o Arial/Times New Roman o 12-Point Font o 1.5 Line Spacing o Punctual (“On time”) or Early Submission
*It is important that you note that not all units are numerically aligned with the textbook chapters. Some units may be numbered the same as the textbook chapter; other units may be numbered differently than the textbook chapter; some units may be comprised of multiple textbook chapters. Be conscious of this when completing your Unit Outline.
