Course Description:
This course will focus on the development of oral and written skills within a range of contexts and
situations. It will review specific gramatical structures, broaden general vocabulary and enhance
correct pronunciation.
*It will be conducted in Spanish and it is expected that you will use a limited amount of English in
class. Upon successful completion of the course, you will earn 1 high school credit, and 3 college
credits, only if you choose to enroll with Suffolk Community College.
You will have to register and pay __________ in order to get 3 college credits.
Prerequisite: 85% average in Spanish 4, teacher recommendation, speaking and writing
assessments prior to course registration.
Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Derive essential information by listening to, answering/responding to oral statements, questions,
conversations and narrations based on course-related themes
2. Make and respond to statements and questions as well as summarize course-related material in
Spanish.
3. Engage in face-to-face conversations within the vocabulary, structure and phonology
appropriate to the communicative situations and functions of this level
4. Compose informal and formal notes and messages
5. Write essays and letters based on familiar topics using vocabulary and structures of this level
6. Read and answer comprehension questions on authentic/realistic material and texts within the
context of course-related themes
7. Articulate aspects of the various Hispanic cultures in comparison with the U.S. and other
culture.
8. Express thoughts and opinions on a variety of themes in the Target Language
