Overview of the Team:
The Samsung Marketing Placement programme offers you an exciting and rewarding experience and has been designed to
ensure that we get the best out of your during your placement year by offering a real role, with real responsibilities from
day one.
Throughout the year, you will participate in regular training to support the development of your personal and professional
skills alongside having regular 1:1 meetings with your manager and aligned mentor. With Samsung’s open, honest and
dynamic working culture you’ll be able to interact and build your network with Senior Management at Samsung alongside
developing key relationships amongst Samsung’s key stakeholders across the wider IT market.
Working within a team of 6 people, you will report directly to the Head of Marketing for Samsung’s IT division. Safe in the
knowledge, that many of the team have undertaken placement years themselves over the last 10-15 years, you will be
assured that you will have real responsibility right from day one. The team is responsible for managing the entire
marketing strategy across Samsung’s Printer, Notebook, Business Tablet and Display portfolio which represents in excess of
£500m per year. By marketing to both channel partners and end-users, we ensure that we develop the right push/pull
effect in the market that enables us to consistently deliver on our objectives.
If you are self-motivated, have strong organisational and interpersonal skills, are able to work using your own initiative and
have a keen eye for detail, Samsung’s marketing operation is the right fit for you.
Key Objectives:
As a placement student working within Samsung’s marketing department, you will be exposed to a wide range of
marketing activities. You will be responsible for managing 2-3 key projects over the course of the year that will make a real
difference to our business and will enable you to clearly demonstrate the return on investment that your projects have
made.
You will gain direct experience in working with marketing agencies and key suppliers, developing marketing briefs and
delivering campaigns which incorporate all elements of the marketing mix. From online marketing campaigns, internal
communications, end-customer direct marketing, press advertising, events management and public/analyst relations, you
will be sure to build up a credible portfolio of experiences for when you return to University.
Samsung supports a “Management by Objectives” culture, where within the first 2 weeks of employment, you will be set a
number of measurable goals to achieve over a 6-month and 12-month period.
These key objectives will include:

Developing and managing two seasonal campaigns for the retail market focussed on peak buying periods –
working alongside Intel, Microsoft and/or Google to deliver a compelling message and offer to market

Working alongside our Retail Marketing Managers’ you will manage the Samsung In-Store Staff Programme which
operates across a number of flagship partner retail outlets in the UK

Working alongside our Channel Marketing Managers’ you will define and develop 2 key programmes that is aimed
at developing Samsung’s presence within the B2B market. Specifically working with Samsung’s channel partners
and resellers, you will be focussed on developing educational programmes and promotions aimed at positioning
Samsung as the vendor of choice within the business market

Working alongside our Corporate Marketing Managers’ you will develop key hospitality programmes and events
orientated around Samsung’s sponsorship of the 2012 Olympics in London, Chelsea FC and the many cultural
associations that we have developed across the UK
Project Involvement:
Samsung is all about showing real development within the markets that we focus in. In summary your key project
involvements will cover the following:
1.
Samsung in Retail Development Project
2.
Co-Marketing Demand Generation Projects with Intel, Microsoft and Google
3.
Samsung B2B Channel Partner Programme
4.
Managing attendance at key industry events, hospitality, conferences and tradeshows.
Personal Specification:
We are looking for people with strong commercial and communication skills who can challenge the way things have been
done traditionally and who are keen to explore new ways of doing things. A proactive and positive attitude is a must and
you need to have the ability to work independently or as part of a multi-cultural and diverse team.

Educational Experience/interest:

Second year of study in your undergraduate degree must be completed
-
Students must have a sound education record (either marketing-related or business-related with marketing
modules included)

Expectation to gain a minimum 2:1 degree classification

Understanding of Microsoft Office is vital
-
Good communications skills paramount
-
Participation or work experience in meaningful extra curricular activities related to your chosen field
-
Applicants should also be able to demonstrate an understanding of how the IT industry in the UK operates – from
channel partners (Retail and B2B), to key competitors and industry alliances

A clean, Full Driving License is beneficial as you will be required to travel throughout the UK for this role
-
In addition to the above education requirements, applicants must be eligible to work in the UK and be available to
commence employment in early September until the end of August 2012
