Totley AC Committee Meeting Minutes - the Fleur 7.30 06/04/09 Present: Aidan, Don, Jan, Paul, Colin, Pat Visitors: None 1. Apologies: Pippa, Jeremy, Richard, Rob, Emma, Mark, Ruth, Rob 2. Minutes of last meeting: Accepted by Don and seconded by Jan 3. Matters arising from minutes: The issue of paper vs. PDF format for the magazine was discussed. It was generally decided that people liked the paper format and that although the option for receiving the magazine electronically should remain, this will be in addition to the hard copy and will continue to be produced and distributed to all members unless they specifically ask otherwise. 4. Officers’ Reports: Treasurer: Colin reported on the healthy state of the club finances Membership: Jan reported that the current membership now totals 140. There is just one 1 new member this month, Claire Howard, who was accepted by the committee. Reminders have been sent out for all members who have not paid this year’s subs. Reminder to be put in the next magazine and on the club website. The continued confusion over the necessity to pay the £5 supplement to English Athletics in addition to the Totley membership fee was discussed. AL raised the issue it was widely [yet incorrectly] assumed that membership of an athletic club automatically gave you race discount and that confirmation ‘personal’ membership was rarely policed, hence reinforcing this assumption. After prolonged debate, it has been decided to put a note on the membership form clearly explaining the situation in an effort to clear the confusion. A good example of the wording was presented to the committee from another running club membership form. The Club will not explicitly oblige members to pay as long policing of this issue remains lax! Social: Absent Website: Absent Men’s Captain: Aidan reported on Totley achievements at Grindleford Gallop, Edale Skyline, Rother Valley [overcrowded] 10k and the Wolf’s Pit fell race. In the absence of Pippa, the women’s achievements were also raised, including a 1st V50 result for Jan at the Grindleford Gallop – well done! Phil Heler is unable to use his London Marathon place and was asking if it could be given to another Totley Member. It was raised that the places are non-transferable and that photo ID is required to collect the race numbers on the day. Therefore, it was advised that Phil should contact the LM and ask for the place to be held for next year’s race. Women’s Captain: Absent Kit: Sales of kit, particularly club vests have been buoyant, as members get kitted out for the summer! Magazine: Mark sent the following comments in his absence: More reports needed for ‘fave run/race’ and ‘is it something I said???’ Committee to nag/arm-twist as required to get more contributions for the magazine. Secretary: No report 5. AOB: Don to contact Pippa regarding the organisation of the Tiger’s Todger Fell Race. Don to write to Peak Park to get permission for the Ex-Terminator race – unlikely to counter resistance as management is known to be sympathetic to runners. Accusations of Totley cheating at the Gallop will not be responded to – as this could be taken as admission of guilt. Totley not specifically mentioned by name. Committee to seek clarification of rules as to whether the course is a fixed route or point-to-point in advance of next year’s race. Don - Keep on Running/Accelerate. Mild diplomatic spat resolved after Don spoke to Keep on Running. Colin suggested they should hold a similar event next year which the club would be happy to attend. Keep on Running link to be put on website. Jan – Kate Parr suffered leg injury on the first fell run of the year. After discussion, it was decided that people should still be responsible for their own safety and that fell running is a potentially dangerous sport. It is advisable that somebody on a club run should carry First Aid, but this not a mandatory requirement. Common sense and carrying a mobile phone to call for help with for serious injuries is recommended. Don to arrange Edale Mountain Rescue to give a talk on First Aid – details TBC Meeting closed at 8.45. Next meeting 11th May at the Fleur, 7.30. Thank you to everyone who attended.
