Teaching grammar is almost non existent in the first part of course. -Last quarter reserved for more traditional approaches to language learning. -Conjugation of regular AR/ER/IR verbs -Definite and indefinite articles, possessive pronouns, noun adjective agreement. Vocabulary / Function -First part of vocab is from a list comprised of 83 words. A mixture of verbs (either 3rd person singular or the familiar command form), nouns, adjectives and adverbs. From this, students are able to develop a short children’s story (plot, theme, setting, mood, character) told in 3rd person. -Later in course vocab develops and students are encouraged to tell/retell their own stories. 1 Culture / Reading -Novel: Pobre Ana about a girl from California who visits Mexico and her experiences with the culture. -Magazine: cultural articles from “¿Qué Tal?” -Holidays / customs of Spanish speaking countries as they occur during the year. -Video: “The Official Story” about the politics and culture climate around the “disappeared” in Argentina.
