The student will be able to demonstrate expressive and receptive skills by using the regular present and irregular present tense forms in
conversations PLUS preterits regular and irregular tenses about topics covered in the text. Describe daily routines using reflexives, and
use more detail describing persons and objects. Express wants and needs. Identify and use the 2 types of the verb to BE, KNOW/MEET.

affirmatively and negatively. Read a passages/literature of text in Spanish to gather information and show understanding. Use
commands to acquire directions and order people. Discuss celebrations, and how to explain ailments at the Doctor using the Imperfect
tense. Write a small paragraph using grammatical concepts, correct syntax, and vocabulary from the text. Recall vocabulary including
idiomatic expressions that will permit the receptive and expressive skills. Compare and contrast cultural differences. Identify several
Spanish speaking countries, regions, and cultures. Differentiate the use and time of the Preterit vs the Imperfect tenses.
I will present the information to you in many ways, methods, and styles to maximize your learning mode. I DO NOT LECTURE. We move
about to activities in the lesson every 15-20 mins and do 2-3 activites that help you learn.
This class requires you to internalize a lot of new vocabulary. Study it as soon as you get it, until it is memorized. I care and want you to
learn. I will help you including working with you during lunch, before and after school.
Please do not wait until the end of the marking period or semester to ask for help.
In this course of SPANISH 112 communication is and should be the main goal of the student. You will have the
opportunity to speak in group discussion, presentations, skits, demonstrations . If you are taking this class you will be expected
to SPEAK IN SPANISH. If you do NOT wish to speak Spanish, then your grade WILL reflect your output in the class. I am willing to give you
ALL the extra assistance in becoming bilingual in the language. This is attainable regardless of your level of competence in others
disciplines.
You learned to speak one of the hardest languages to pronounce (English), and you did it by SPEAKING. Speaking Spanish will not be a
problem as long as you DO IT. Read and write in Spanish to develop your cognitive mastery of the language.
Daily Work/grades There will be daily assignments. We shall cover in a systematic manner the lessons. The student should memorize
the vocabulary topic given for the lesson. Due to the pace of the course, and the time frame, ATTENDANCE is very important. Daily
homework from the text book and worksheets will be covered in class and checked for accuracy. The tests are a reflection of the
worksheets and book assignments. Expect vocabulary quizzes on a bi-weekly basis.
Attendance: Missing class for whatever reason will create a ‘snowball effect’. In each lesson you will receive a large amount of
information that you must master (whether vocabulary or grammar information). If you are absent from class, PLEASE contact me via
email so I can send you any pertinent information that you will need to have for the next class/lesson. Please EMAIL ME THE SAME DAY
YOU ARE ABSENT. Not the day you are returning. Come for help the day you return to SCHOOL.
In order to Succeed in class you should…

Write what you see me write down. Read it until you master it. Hear me say it and pronounce. We all have accents and you will
sound great. JUST BY THE ACT OF SAYING the word, the brain acquires the language. Language is learned this way.
Take notes and spell the WORDS correctly…If you write them wrong you will learn them wrong.
Keep all notes in a SPIRAL NOTEBOOK not just in single sheets inside a Binder or you may lose them.
PUT A DATE ON THE NOTES and a TITLE…EX: Oct 14, FAMILY/FAMILIA. So you can reference them when you study them.
KEEP all notes and vocabulary lists separate from written exercises… DO NOT WRITE THEM ON YOUR PAGE WITH NOTES…MAKE
STUDY CARDS for vocabulary study…they save you time studying.
BRING everything YOU NEED for class, including BOOK, NOTEBOOKS, pencil, and color pencils to class or a highlighter.
Study daily and in SMALL amounts and OFTEN so you are NOT overwhelmed with so much information at once.
Please DO NOT ask if you need to spell words right. You are in High School and one step closer to College.
Extra credit is for extra effort…not to patch a POOR test or not doing a graded assignment fully. You MAY retake a TEST or a QUIZ…
once per marking period…but you may not redo homework if you did NOT do it, or did it half effort.
***Copying homework from others will NOT teach YOU to learn it or how to answer the question. Because you will need to do it
on your own when the time comes to take a test.
At my discretion I will ask you to retake a quiz or assignment ORALLY which means now you will have to demonstrate to me your
ability to say it rather than write it.
Your ability to listen the lesson is determined by your placement in the room. The further back you sit, the more people in front of
you that may interrupt the flow of communication between YOU and I. Your best bet is to SIT CLOSER to the front.
If you have to make up work (including tests), do this as soon as you return to SCHOOL, NOT JUST MY CLASS!!! MAKE arrangements with
me for a pass to seminar or lunch or afterschool. Your tests and quizzes should reflect the grade that you may receive at exam time.
Graded Work:
1.CLASSWORK/
Textbook work or worsksheets in class.
Vocabulary Builders or Puzzles almost each class we will do an activity that will be graded utilizing target vocabulary.
2.HOMEWORK from the Text book or special worksheet will be checked in class for accuracy, and collected for a grade.
Please have it ready for inspection and or collection.
3. Listening LABS/VIDEOSSUPERSITE (www.vhl.central.com) we will use this site to listen and do listening labs/videos.
3.PROJECTS/PRESENTATIONSAfter each lesson you will be required to do a small presentation Topic/Chapter related in Spanish. You
may do this individually or as a group of 2-4. If someone in your group is absent for this, you will be required to present your oral
presentation minus the absentee (I will be the SUB for the absentee). Delaying the presentation due to lack of preparation will lower the
GRADE.
4.TESTS [1 per lesson]
5.QUIZZES [1+ per lesson as needed]. These quizzes are announced 1-2 classes prior to the quiz
6.FINAL EXAM. There will be a cumulative exam at the end of the semester.
