1 SCOPE

This examination procedure is applicable to connected cable, considering electrical circuits etc under an un-energized condition. It can also be used as a general examination procedure for small changes, as changes of cables and installations in room for electrical equipment or equal.

Important! This check is not a functional test of the electrical circuits.

2 OBJECTIVE

Circuit check means to inspect all that is installed or dismantled according to valid documentation. The inspection is made in order to verify that correct documentation and correct and safe electrical function can be achieved when tested and started up.

The performance should be in harmony with the purpose of the design and in its total fulfil the acceptance criteria.

3 METHOD

3.1

General

Circuit check requires professionallity, corresponding fitter according to MBE 101 point 4.3 and enough of basic knowledge, especially about inspection work, the documentation system and the actual design.

3.2

Presumptions

The extent of what is to be check and the associated limitations should be done before the work is started.

Circuit check starts after that Self-Inspection and other Installation Inspection are done and that deviations found are treated.

Documentation base for check is a circuit diagram and other B-documentation, which are to be found in the installation documentation.

To mark up the documentation during the progress of the work, pencils with different colours are used.

Green For checked and approved items.

Graphite Only for support annotates to a limited extent

Circuit check is always performed under an un-energized condition. If nothing else is stated disconnections which have been done for constraints are left untouched.

3.3

Working procedure

Circuit check work does normally include the following workflow:

Examination of earlier made inspection.

For small changes that only contains change of cables and joining in the circuit in electricity rooms or corresponding and where installation inspection is not done as own activity will the following be checked;

Ocular review to make sure that everything is all right, that there are no damages on the equipment, that the equipment is cleaned and freed of dust.

Inspection of markings in cupboards and drawers and object labels.

Inspection of cables, wiring and terminal markings.

All newly installed devices e.g. transmitters, relays etc. are inspected compared to the apparatus list.

All connections are inspected according to tables and circuit diagram regarding area and termination. In certain cases e.g. cross-connections, junctions are inspected with a buzzer or an ohmmeter. Working method is described in appendix 1.

If needed, inspect and make a follow-up on the terminals, which are concerned of the change.

Inspect earthings, both protective earthings and technical earthings.

Successive notation in documentation during on-going inspection.

The inspection is summarised in MKE EP-001 .

3.4

Deviations

Failures or deviations that are detected during circuit check should be dealt with as follows:

It must be verified where to find the failure or deviation, in the documentation, or in the performed work, in condition with remaining equipment or against the purpose of the design.

MKE EP-405 Version 3 en Page 3 (5)

Smaller imperfections in documentation, design or installation which have been made according to oversight, should be changed if possible by the person performing the circuit check

Other imperfections or deviations that have been verified within the inspection are to be reported to foreman for further treatment with correction, depending on how the problem is best solved, in documentation, design, equipment or the installation.

4 ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA

The work shall be done according to valid documentation and Installation regulations.

The result shall fulfil the requirements demanded including additional requirements in the manufacturer’s instructions, if any. The performance shall in all parts be professionally and functionally correct.

All equipment included shall be complete and clean, inspected and approved considering placement, markings and type and marked in documentation with green or blue.

All electrical circuits, which are concerned, shall be inspected and marked with green or blue in the documentation.

As far as it is possible to judge, the performance is to be electrical safe and agree with the purpose of the design.

If nothing else is stated the inspection shall be performed according to point

6”checklist” in applicable parts.

5 DOCUMENTATION

Inspected and approved junctions are marked with red or blue in connection tables, circuit diagram or other applicable documentation.

7 COMMENTS AND GUIDANCE TO INSPECTION ELEMENT

7.1

General rules within circuit check

Inspected and approved junctions are to be marked with a green pencil in the circuit diagram, tables and other documents according to principles below,

Limit for inspected junction is marked with a vertical score

Changes and corrections are recorded with blue in order to be inserted in the original documents later on.

All junctions are to be check. Whole pages are not to be marked with a cross or

OK all over it or similar summarized notation.

All junctions, who are included in the change are to be inspected.

Missed junction or temporary by pass jumpers, which are to be permanent or to be removed, are always done with an orange wire. The junction should always be marked with its changed number. This is also valid for unconnected cable conductors.

Certain junctions can be marked with a blue pencil in the documentation. These should be laid and stripped, marked but not connected.

Connection is done later during test/start-up.
