The examination lasts 3 days and candidates are assessed on the following sections: Section A – Composite Installation (8.5hrs) Risk Assessment and Safe Isolation Interpretation of specifications and technical data Installation of lighting, power, heating and data circuits Section B – Inspection and Testing (3.5hrs) Inspection and Testing the composite installation Completion of tests in accordance with BS-7671 and guidance note 3 Completion of electrical installation certificate, schedule of inspections and schedule of test results Section C – Fault Diagnosis (2hrs) Identification of faults with the aid of fault symptom cards Correct use of tools and instruments that are fit for purpose Section D – Online Examination (1hr) 30 multiple choice questions Assessment of knowledge associated with work undertaken within the assessment of occupational competence All 4 sections of the test are timed. The four sections must be completed within the specified target times. The work must comply with the requirements of the current lEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) and Health and Safety Regulations. Candidates will be permitted to refer to the current edition of the lEE Wiring Regulations (BS 7671), lEE Guidance Note No.3 Inspection and Testing, lEE OnSite Guide (OSG) and guide to the building regs during the tests. Candidates will work on a standard test unit, using drawings, block and circuit diagrams and written instructions.
