BASKETBALL SEASON
Dear Parents of 4th –8th Grade Students:
Each year interested City Tree 4th-8th graders participate in a basketball league with
other Christian and private schools. Games, during the regular season, are played at St.
Paul’s Lutheran School in Pacific Beach. During the season there is typically one game
per week on either Tuesday or Thursday. Practices will be held after school on our roof
playground.
The boys’ games will be played in January –February with possibly some preseason
games in December. The girls’ games will be late February – early April. That may
seem like a long ways off, but every year it sneaks up on us, and we find we are rushing
around at the last minute getting everything arranged. The boys’ first practices will begin
November on the roof. Exact dates and times will be announced soon.The girls will
begin practicing in January.
Mr. Peter Joseph and Mr. Ryan Bennett will be coaching the boys’ teams. Ms. Fancine
Howell will be coaching the girls. If there is large amount of interest we may need some
additional coaches. There is also always a need for parent assistance with basketball,
please sign-up on the attached form if that is something you are interested in. Your help
is desired and important. You will be contacted, if you sign-up to assist.
The cost for each child participating in the season will be $75.00. This payment covers
referees, awards, equipment, uniforms, gym fees, etc. If your child will be participating,
please fill out the form below and return it, with cash or a check made out to City Tree
Christian School, to the mailbox (outside the office) labeled “Athletics”. Please make
every effort to return your form and payment by November 4th. A more detailed
practice and game schedule will be distributed once forms have been turned in and
practice begins.
We are looking forward to a great basketball season emphasizing building basketball
skills, teamwork, participation, and sportsmanship.

Athletic Participation Contract
I understand that in order to participate in school athletic events (volleyball and/or
basketball games) I must meet the following standards:

Maintain my grades and show good effort and participation in academic
classes. This will be evaluated on a weekly basis by my teachers in
conjunction with Mrs. Henzel (grades 6-8) and Mrs. Kennedy (grades 4-5)
to determine eligibility for games.

Maintain a good behavior record. This includes, but is not limited to,
detentions, class citizenship, and school-wide citizenship.

Display sportsmanship at games and during practices. This will be
evaluated by my coaches.
If I do not meet the expectations set for me, I will be benched for select games.
This means I will show up in uniform, support my team, but not participate. My
eligibility will be determined on a weekly basis.
