A LENTEN PRAYER
Good and Gracious God,
You call your people back to You this Lent.
May this sacred season renew
Our desire to live fully the promises
Of our Baptism and to love You With a whole heart
Through more frequent prayer,
Acts of charity and fasting,
May we remember that loving You And one another is the
most Important thing we can do.
In confidence, we ask these things Through Jesus Christ,
our Lord and Saviour.
Amen.
Lenten Faith Activities
During Lent we imitate Jesus, who spent forty days in the desert in prayer and
fasting before beginning His public ministry. Lent provides us the opportunity to
pause, reflect and refocus on our faith. In observance of this most Holy Season,
please encourage your child to take extra time to pray, and to make a deliberate
effort to give and share. Helping with tasks at home can do this; performing a
kind act for a classmate each day; or donating part of their allowance to the
Church or a Catholic charity are just a few suggestions. The possibilities are
endless.

students received crosses on their foreheads. Ash Wednesday derives
its name from the practice of blessing ashes made from palm branches
blessed on the previous year's Palm Sunday, and placing them on the
heads of participants to the accompaniment of the words "Remember
that you are dust, and to dust you shall return". Stations of the cross
have been set around the school for students to visit and pray with their
classes as we prepare for Easter.

WHAT’S UP AT CMART?
MARCH 10th- What Is The Great
Big Crunch?
Family of Schools Chess tournament
April 1st, 2016
The Canadian Martyrs chess club is well
underway and students are learning to play the
game and having lots of fun!
The Great Big Crunch is a special day of good
food education, ending with a massive,
synchronized bite into a crunchy apple to
celebrate.
Players will be asked to participate in the Family
Tournament taking place on April 1st.
Keep up the great strategizing!
Keep
Get Healthy, Martyrs!
On Thursday, March 10th, Canadian Martyrs
will once again be participating in The Big
Crunch and on Friday, March 11th, holding
Healthy Active Living Day.
On March 10th, all students will be called to the
gymnasium to participate in The Big
Crunch. Apples have been ordered for all
students and staff, and will be distributed in the
gymnasium. We will be given a count down,
and at exactly 2:30 p.m., along with many other
schools across Canada, we will all be biting into
our apples simultaneously!
On Friday, March 11th, students will be placed
into teams, and will rotate through 4 different
teacher-led activities under the categories of
healthy living, low impact fitness, high impact
fitness, and outdoor games.
We ask that students come prepared to
participate in these activities, by dressing in
running shoes, and clothing appropriate for
physical activity.
SHARELIFE "SPELLING BEE"
As part of our school effort to raise funds for
SHARELIFE, we are holding a "Spelling Bee".
Each class will be given a number of words
appropriate to their grade level. The students will
have some time to practice and be ready for the
"Spelling Bee" on Wednesday, March 9th, 2016.
Junior Kindergartens will be asked to write some
letters of the alphabet instead of words. Sponsor
sheets have already been sent home.
Please encourage your children to participate in
raising funds for this very worthwhile charity.
WildeWood School Zone Safety Award
Canadian Martyrs was a proud recipient of the
WildeWood School Zone Safety Award
presented by Mayor Crombie and Mississauga

CMART NEWS!
Sports Update
GRADE 7/8 STOCK MARKET MATHEMATICS
As a way to further their understanding of Integers, the students in
Mr. Kelly’s Gr. 7/8 class have been tasked with tracking the
performance of a stock of their choice over the course of two weeks.
This activity is tied in with their learning goals of identifying and
comparing integers found in real-life contexts, as well as solving
problems involving integers using a variety of tools and operations.
The students found out quickly that the stock market is fun and
exhilarating, but also an unpredictable entity!
Intermediate Boys Basketball
Our Wildcats Intermediate Boys’ Basketball team has
been selected. The boys have been practicing hard in
anticipation of their upcoming games. They hope to
have a fun and successful season! Congratulations to
the following students for making the team: Tavion,
Marc, Damian, Luigi, Steven, Tristan, Nathaniel,
Juan, Daniel and Dean!
Junior Girls Basketball
Ms. Gough and Ms. Baldissarelli would like to thank
all the junior girls who participated on the basketball
team. The girls trained for a month and a half, three
times a week, practicing drills through scrimmaging,
focusing on teamwork, communication, and honing
their dribbling, passing and shooting skills. Great job
girls and it was a pleasure coaching you. Special
thanks to those parents who continuously showed up
to watch our games and support their daughters.
Thanks also to Farrah C., Savannah C. and Kalli M.
for volunteering to assist with practices and score
keep in our home games. The Junior Girls Basketball
Team: Amanda, Oghomwen, Mya, Samantha,
Salome, Sophia, Evelyn, Rachel, Hailey, Nicole.
Primary Floor Hockey Update
Junior Boys Basketball Update
On February 22nd, the Primary Floor Hockey League wrapped
up its regular season schedule. In this third season, we witnessed
some extremely close competition as many games were decided
by just one goal! The sportsmanship and teamwork was even
more impressive as students learned and improved together with
each game they played. We look forward to some exciting
playoff action on February 29th when the Canucks take on the
Canadiens in one semi-final, and the Maple Leafs battle the
Oilers in the other! The winners will advance to the Canadian
Martyrs Cup Final on March 7th! Congratulations to all the
players for participating so actively and for their dedication to
their teams!
Congratulations to the Junior Boys Basketball team
on a very successful season! The boys finished with a
regular season record of 3 wins and 2 losses. This
earned them second place in the division and a berth
in the Mississauga East Family of Schools
Tournament! The tournament took place on
Thursday, February 25th at Philip Pocock Secondary
School. The boys earned a place in the semi-final
after a hard fought 32-25 win over St. Timothy! In
the semi-final the boys showed heart, determination,
and a never give up attitude after being down early
against a very skilled Corpus Christi team.
Unfortunately, the boys couldn’t make their way back
and came up just one game short of moving on to the
Board Tournament. Thank you to Jacob, Simon,
Treshan, Payton, Damien, Xavier, Ben, Joshua,
Christian, and Evan for all your hard work and
commitment throughout the season. Your coaches
are very proud of you all!
Silver Creek Outdoor Education Centre
The grade 6 students went to Silver Creek Outdoor Education Centre on February 8, 2016. The students familiarized
themselves with mapping and orientation skills to participate in a scavenger hunt, as well as, exploring part of the Bruce
Trail. The instructors taught the students about Global Stewardship and the importance of protecting our planet, but also
explained that there are many beautiful sites in Ontario that we must explore and conserve. Thank you so much to all the
parents that attended the trip with Ms. Gough, Ms. Bancheri and Ms. Bojsic on the trip- we could not have gone without
you!

Safety
Kiss n’ Ride News
As Spring approaches we are hoping that
many more students will walk to school
and that the Kiss n’ Ride Program will be
much less crowded. We appreciate your
patience as we have kept students as safe as
possible with the heavy traffic situation.
You can help us to keep kids safe by:
Although we have made many gains in
safety the last few year, it is important for
your child’s safety, that all parents follow
our kiss and ride procedures and obey
posted street signs. Law enforcement
officers, as you know, will be monitoring
and ticketing vehicles that do not follow
parking and road signs. Please remember,
the parking lot is closed at dismissal time
except for those cars with disabled parking
permits and buses.
We realize this is a difficult situation.
Please remember our school day ends at
3PM.

Entering the school driveway and Kiss n’
Ride lane one vehicle at a time and not trying
to pass others by using the inside lane or
cutting in front of school buses.

We empty the lane completely and then fill it
up.
Please drive all the way up the lane as far as
you can before stopping to let your child(ren)
out.
Not everyone can park directly in front of the
doors or the playground gates. When you stop
early you make everyone behind you wait.
Please have passengers ready to go with
backpacks in their laps.



Please do not get out of your car to open
trunks or dress children or hold umbrellas.

Do not park in the lane to walk your child.
You are welcome to park and do so. Please let
us know if you require a KINDER HELPER
to escort your child to Kindergarten.

Please do not park in the FIRE LANE at the
front of the school or let your child(ren) out at
the front.

Please arrive on time and use the Kiss n’ Ride
lane when it is supervised. Coming late and
letting children out in front of the school is
very dangerous.
DON’T GET ONE OF THESE!
PICKING UP YOUR CHILD
Our parking lot is closed at 2:00 each day
and is marked with orange pylons. Only School
Board, Day Care, Programs, and Disabled vehicles
are allowed to bypass the pylons and enter the
parking lot. Parents we do not have parking for
