DEPARTMENTAL POLICY ON ABSENCES AND EXAMS ABSENCES: For sound pedagogical reasons, no more than THREE absences from class will be tolerated without penalty. After the third absence, your class grade will be lowered unless you provide a medical certificate or, in case or serious non-medical problems, a formal written justification (letter from counselors, parents, etc.) For each extra absence one point will be taken off from your participation grade. Example: If your participation grade is B+ and you have 1 extra non-justified absence, your grade will be lowered to B. With two extra absences your grade will be B-. MIDTERMS and FINALS: Only under very special circumstances the department will allow you to take an early or late midterm or final exam. This request will have to be approved by the supervisor of the language program. If you are a member of an intercollegiate athletic team and have to be out of town for sport tournaments, you will have to bring a letter from your coach.
