Dear IAED Students, > > You may have already read in the "summer practice report preparation form" that you would be bringing your report within 7 days after your summer practice is finished. However, we have decided as the IAED Department that, you should bring them all at the same time on the 7th of September. > > This should not change anything regarding how you collect your information throughout the summer. Be sure to take notes, photographs, and record EVERYTHING that goes on site and in the office. If you leave your preparation to the last minute in September, you will forget many things. > > Try to take on different types of work. Do not confine your job to just observation. > > Also, prepare your report on your own and include personal opinions/interpretations as much as possible so that, your report will be unique. Needless to say, group work and copying is strictly forbidden in the report. Otherwise, you may have to repeat your summer practice and/or receive a penalty. > > The Summer Practice is an important part of your education and is one we value greatly as a department. Please try to show your workplace your intelligence, motivation, and dedication, and represent our university the best way you can. > > Have a nice summer, > Deniz Hasirci Dear IAED Students, As you know, you will submit your Summer Practice application forms until the 22nd of May to me. * Please check this link for the forms to be filled. The one you submit to me will be signed and stamped (kase ve imzali) by the company. http://oim.ieu.edu.tr/index.php/akademik-bilgiler/stajlar/ * Also, this year, you will be insured by the university. Please also check the link for the requirements and submit them until the 22nd of May. CHECK BELOW FOR REGULATIONS OF OUR DEPARTMENT: * At this stage, do not forget that you have to complete: 1. Staj Kabul Formu: A document from the firm that says that they have accepted you and shows the dates of summer practice with the stamp (kaşe/ damga) and signature of the manager. 2. Zorunlu Staj Başvuru Formu: To be given to the company. 3. Sigortalama Süreci: Insurance requirements. * After your summer practice is over you will bring within 7 days: 1. Stajyer Değerlendirme Formu 2. Staj Yeri Değerlendirme Formu 3. Finalized Report IMPORTANT POINTS: * The summer practice work and report will be prepared by the student himself/herself without any outside help. * Take your summer practice seriously. Anything you learn is for your own advantage, and you will definitely use that information at some point in your professional and university life. * Take your report seriously. You may have to repeat a Summer Practice or not be able to graduate because of an unsatisfactory report. * Do not forget to keep a journal for every day of the summer practice. Start collecting data, visuals from the first day. Take notes and photographs, make sketches, drawings and the like. You may forget many things when you actually begin to write your report. * You are expected to see construction in the first and office in the second summer practice basically. Specify this on the cover of your report, within the text, and on the official documents. In some cases, you can do both within the allotted 4 weeks for that particular summer However, be sure that the weight is on one or the other according to your year. This is important so that you see the order of work. * The report you prepare at the end of your summer practice should be in ENGLISH. * The report should at least be 8-10 pages in addition to the visuals (drawings, photos, charts). * There is no limit in the amount of visuals you need to include in your report, but do not put everything. Refer to the visuals from the text. * Write about specific work (how the tiles are being laid, how the plumbing is being laid out), not general things that give no information (“I learned many things…, very useful for me…” etc.). * Include visuals (sketches, computer drawings, photographs of the job site, office, work). * Arrange your report in 11 or 12 font with 1,5 or double space. Have a “Table of Contents” page in the beginning. * Number the pages. * Every academic paper or report needs a good introduction and conclusion. * Do not forget to put your references (if there are any) at the end. * Have a cover page with your name and the title of the report. * Put your name, and the title (ex: Summer Practice - Office Work) on the folder. * Place your report in a neat folder of A4 size (not a plastic file etc.). * You will be handing in your report to the IAED Department within 1 week following your summer practice period. You will then have one correction opportunity to correct or alter any problems on your report that has been evaluated by the assigned instructor in your department. I wish you all an enjoyable work experience. Best, Asst. Prof. Dr. Deniz Hasirci E-mail: deniz.hasirci@ieu.edu.tr Office: A505 Telephone: 4888408
