Have had the opportunity to be involved with 2 new build vessels during my career with Maersk, most recently in Stralsund, Germany 2006. These gave me a great insight into the regulations regarding design and construction of vessels working closely with Classification surveyors throughout the final 2 months of construction including sea trials. OBJECTIVE Since being promoted to Master, earlier this year, although the role as Master presents a broad spectrum of interest, I also feel that now is the correct time to move away from Maersk Supply Service and try something else from offshore support vessels since working closely with FPSO’s, Drilling Ships and other offshore installations has increased my level of interest in their operation. I thrive on the responsibility the position of Captain on board provides and use this as a catalyst to achieve higher goals. EXTRACURRICULAR ACTI VITIES When on leave I spend a lot of time travelling around the country. I use the time spent at sea to visit the world and what time at home, exploring my own country. A career at sea makes a lot of good friends nationwide, and provides you with an immediate liaison in every corner of the country. Of course, I enjoy time with my family, my Wife and I are looking forward to welcoming our first child into the Family in March 2015 I also find myself, regularly on courses with the company, including Crew Resource Management and Team Building in Denmark. All these additional activities are forever widening my horizons. INTERESTS AND ACTIVI TIES I have a very keen interest in the motoring world, both old and new. Motor sports interest me, whether on sea or land. I have been tall ship sailing in the North Sea and also involved in Track Days at Knockhill, Donnington, Spa, Nurburgring and Mondello as well as a few fully organized airfield events locally around Northern Ireland I am part of a Motorsport club and find myself often organising events as other club members work when I am on leave. AWARDS RECEIVED I was Maersk Cadet of the Year for the year 2000 and also was nominated ‘Best Level 4, NVQ Portfolio’ for my intake in Glasgow and was awarded by the Marine Society accordingly.
