Accelerated Geometry Curriculum Map Course Understandings Essential Questions Students will understand: Basic terms of Geometry. Use properties of parallel and perpendicular lines. How to prove lines are parallel. How to prove triangles are congruent. How are the basic terms of Geometry used to make theorems and postulates? What are the steps used in writing a two column proof? How do you use the ideas of direct and indirect proof, and counter-examples to verify valid conjectures and refute invalid conjectures? Students will understand: How to prove right triangles are congruent. Use properties of quadrilaterals. Prove and use properties of similar figures. Use right triangle relationships. What are the 4 ways to prove triangles congruent and the 4 ways to prove right triangles are congruent? How to use CPCTC in proofs? What are the definitions and properties of special quadrilaterals? How to apply Pythagorean theorem to problem solving situations? Students will understand: Use properties of circles and parts of circles. Find perimeter and area. Find surface area and volume. What are inscribed and central angels of a circle and how to use theorems and properties to find measures of arcs and angles. How can a change in one measurement of a 2- or 3dimensional figure effect other measurements such as perimeter, area, surface area or volume of that figure?
