SYNOPSIS
Jigsaw and his apprentice Amanda are dead.
Upon the news of Detective Kerry's murder, two seasoned FBI profilers, Agent Strahm
(Scott Patterson) and Agent Perez (Athena Karkanis), arrive at the depleted police
precinct and help veteran Detective Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) sift through Jigsaw's
latest grisly game of victims and piece together the puzzle. But then SWAT Commander
Rigg (Lyriq Bent), the only local officer who has yet to experience Jigsaw’s (Tobin Bell)
handiwork, is suddenly abducted. Thrust into the madman's harrowing game, he has but
90 minutes to overcome a diabolical series of interconnected traps...or face the deadly
consequences.
Rigg's citywide pursuit leaves a wake of dead bodies, and Detective Hoffman and the FBI
uncover long hidden clues that lead them back to Jigsaw's ex-wife Jill (Betsy Russell).
The genesis of Jigsaw's evil is unveiled, exposing the puppet master's true intentions and
the sinister plan for his past, present and future victims.
SAW IV is directed by Darren Lynn Bousman (SAW II, SAW III). The screenplay is by
Patrick Melton & Marcus Dunstan, from a story by Patrick Melton & Marcus Dunstan
and Thomas Fenton. The producers are Gregg Hoffman, Oren Koules and Mark Burg.
The film is executive produced by Daniel Jason Heffner, James Wan, Leigh Whannell,
Stacey Testro, Peter Block and Jason Constantine.

ABOUT THE SAW FRANCHISE
“What the fuck is going on? Where am I?”
Those words, uttered two minutes into 2004’s SAW, express the primal emotions
– the hopeless confusion, the awful sense of powerlessness and sheer, panic-stricken
terror – that lie at the heart of Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures’ SAW franchise; emotions
that are a key to its phenomenal success. The SAW films follow the machinations of
Jigsaw, a terminally ill cancer patient with an exacting moral agenda and a genius for
gruesome games of survival, “played” with those he believes have ceased to value and
appreciate the gift of life. Ratcheting up tension and invention with each successive film,
the SAW franchise has touched a chord while jangling millions of nerves worldwide. It
has picked up the baton from classic horror series such as HALLOWEEN and
NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET to become a cultural touchstone, as well as the most
profitable horror franchise, both theatrically and on DVD, in movie history. To date, the
three SAW titles have taken in over $400 million in worldwide theatrical box office and
their combined net DVD sales exceed 13 million units. The franchise has helped make
Lionsgate the leading studio for horror today, with #1 rankings in box office and DVD
consumer spending.
SAW made its world premiere at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival as part of the
Festival’s popular “Park City at Midnight” program. Festival Director Geoffrey Gilmore,
who programs the annual event, recalls that he was impressed by the first-time
filmmakers’ command of both form and theme. “SAW grabbed the viewer from the first
frame; it was bold, cleverly constructed and flat-out terrifying,” he comments. “But what
really set SAW apart was its moral seriousness. This movie didn’t just want to scare you,
it wanted to make you think about what you would do to stay alive. In today’s world, that
is not a trivial thing to contemplate -- either as an individual or as a member of society.”
As the SAW series has continued, the films have tunneled further into Jigsaw’s
beliefs and worldview. Says Leigh Whannell, who created the original story with director
-4-
James Wan and wrote or co-wrote the screenplays for SAW, SAW II and SAW III,
“Jigsaw’s cancer has led him to think very hard about what it means to be alive and how
close we are to death at any given time. But he’s not someone who stops with a simple
‘carpe diem’ and a trip to Europe. The concept of life’s value becomes a springboard to
look at other personal moral choices, like forgiveness versus retribution. Jigsaw keeps
digging into these issues, which become grist for his games. And as twisted as the games
are, his intention is to help people. Between his philosophical bent and his sick take on
altruism, I like to think Jigsaw is somewhat unique in the horror universe.”
The SAW franchise has been part of a wave of horror films that have drawn
favorable comparisons to the independent horror cinema of the 1970s, a connection
highlighted in a Summer 2007 series at New York’s Museum of the Moving Image,
entitled “It’s Only a Movie: Horror Films from the 1970s and Today.” The six-weekend
retrospective drew a thru-line between films like Wes Craven’s LAST HOUSE ON THE
LEFT (1972) and Tobe Hooper’s TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (1974), which
shocked audiences of their day with envelope-pushing gore and disturbing explorations
of human behavior; and the films of the SAW age, including Darren Lynn Bousman’s
SAW II, which contain images and stories that have left today’s viewers just as stunned
and terrified -- and eager for more -- as the moviegoers of the 1970s. “It’s Only a Movie”
presented double features that paired films from each era, with SAW II sharing a bill with
Stanley Kubrick’s A CLOCKWORK ORANGE.
Announcing the series in June 2007, the Museum’s Chief Curator, David
Schwartz said, “These movies are of considerable aesthetic and cultural interest, clearly
reflecting the fears of contemporary lives…. Of course we are aware that these films
contain disturbing, often shocking images, but they are powerful precisely because they
tap into our deepest anxieties.”
Assistant Curator Livia Bloom also weighed in. “The filmmakers in this series use
the horror genre as a commercial framework to make smart, often subversive films. Their
work examines deep psychological concerns, and comments on social and political issues
of the day.” Bloom noted that in SAW’s “startling scenes of torture,” she found
“reflections of a life during a time of war and turmoil.”
-5-
The thematic and stylistic consistency of the SAW series owes much to the
stewardship and participation of a core team, including SAW originators James Wan and
Leigh Whannell; writer/director Darren Lynn Bousman, who joined the team with SAW
II; producers Oren Koules, Mark Burg and the late Gregg Hoffman; and executive
producers Stacey Testro, Peter Block and Jason Constantine. The key creative team has
been with the series from the start, and includes director of photography David
Armstrong; production designer David Hackl; editor Kevin Greutert; and composer
Charlie Clouser, a onetime member of the band Nine Inch Nails.
Another critical member of the SAW team is actor Tobin Bell, who has portrayed
Jigsaw throughout the franchise. In his September 7, 2007 essay on contemporary horror
movies in the L.A. Weekly, critic Luke Thomson wrote, “Tobin Bell’s performance as
Jigsaw is a wonder; he’s the best ‘real-world’ horror antihero since Anthony Hopkins
first played Hannibal Lecter.”
As intricate as one of Jigsaw’s games, the SAW films reveal their twisting plots
gradually. The series itself resembles an even larger jigsaw puzzle, with each new film
linking up in some way with its predecessor. With SAW IV arriving in theatres for
Halloween 2007, let’s take a look at the pieces thus far. To paraphrase Jigsaw’s victims:
where are we?
SAW
Director: James Wan
Screenwriter: Leigh Whannell
Story by James Wan and Leigh Whannell
SAW’s opening scene immediately plunges the audience into the unknown, along
with the two unfortunate men, Adam (Leigh Whannell) and Dr. Lawrence Gordon (Cary
Elwes), who wake to find themselves chained up in a fetid subterranean bathroom. The
-6-
captives are the most recent targets of a psychopathic genius known as Jigsaw, who
constructs elaborate games that force his victims to make impossible choices between life
and death. As Adam and Dr. Gordon struggle to unravel the elaborate puzzle of their fate,
Detective Tapp (Danny Glover) and his colleague Kerry (Dina Meyer) work furiously to
determine Jigsaw’s identity before he can claim yet more victims. But Jigsaw has
accomplices – whose willingness is not entirely clear – and his meticulous planning
enables him to escape.
SAW opened nationwide on Friday, October 29, 2004. The film stunned industry
observers by debuting at #3 with a weekend take of $18.4 million and it remained in the
Top 10 for 4 weeks. Produced for just $1.2 million, SAW went on to worldwide box
office earnings of over $102 million ($55.1 domestic, $47.7 international). It won the
Audience Award for Best Feature at the 2004 San Sebastián Horror and Fantasy Film
Festival. SAW was released on DVD/home video on February 15, 2005; it debuted at #1
on the home entertainment charts and sold 2.8 million units in its first week. It was the
top-selling horror DVD of 2005.
SAW II
Director: Darren Lynn Bousman
Screenplay: Leigh Whannell, Darren Lynn Bousman
SAW II finds Jigsaw playing two games simultaneously: one involving eight
victims who wake up in a crumbling house and must solve their mastermind’s riddle
before their insides are destroyed by poison; and the other with Detective Eric Matthews
(Donnie Wahlberg), whose rebellious son is among the eight captives. Also among the
abducted is Amanda (Shawnee Smith), who was introduced in SAW as the only victim to
have survived Jigsaw’s tests. Desperate to save his son, Detective Matthews resorts, not
-7-
for the first time, to brutality and trickery. It’s a decision that leads him right into a trap
designed by Jigsaw in collaboration with his new apprentice: Amanda.
SAW II opened nationwide on Friday, October 28, 2005. It was the weekend’s #1
film with a box office tally of $31.7 million, outperforming SAW’s opening weekend by
$12 million, an increase of approximately 60%. SAW II spent 7 weeks in the U.S. Top
Ten, and was the most profitable horror film of 2005, with domestic theatrical box office
receipts of $87 million. Internationally, SAW II opened at #1 in Australia, Brazil,
Germany and Austria; its combined international box office was $65.9 million. SAW II
was released on DVD/home video on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2006; it debuted at
#1 on the home entertainment charts, selling 2.5 million units on its first day and 3.5
million units in its first week. It was nominated for the 2006 Saturn Award for Best
Horror Film by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, USA; star
Tobin Bell was nominated for the 2006 MTV Movie Award nomination for Best Villain.
SAW III
Director: Darren Lynn Bousman
Story: Leigh Whannell and James Wan
Screenplay: Leigh Whannell
As SAW III begins, Jigsaw’s health is failing and he is preparing his adoring
acolyte, Amanda, to carry on his work. Amanda has designed numerous games herself,
building various horrendous contraptions to test the survival instincts of her victims. A
very important game involves a brain surgeon, Lynn (Bahar Soomekh), who is forced to
operate on the dying man. Meanwhile, in another section of Jigsaw’s lair, a grieving
father, Jeff (Angus Macfadyen) is given the barbed opportunity to fulfill his dreams of
revenge. Like so many before him, Jeff lives down to Jigsaw’s expectations … with dire
consequences for the people he loves.
-8-
SAW III opened nationwide on Friday, October 27, 2006. It was the weekend’s
#1 film with a box office tally of $33.6 million, the biggest opening in Lionsgate history.
It spent 4 weeks in the U.S. Top Ten, and was the most profitable horror film of 2006,
with domestic theatrical box office receipts of $80.2 million. SAW III’s international box
office receipts totaled over $100 million, and it marked the first Lionsgate film to open at
#1 in Great Britain, where it took in $4.9 million in its first weekend. SAW III was
released on DVD/home video on January 23, 2007, debuting at #1 on the charts, selling
1.6 million units in the U.S. and Canada on its first day and 2.5 million units in its first
week. It is on track to become the best-selling horror DVD of 2007. SAW III was
nominated for the 2007 Saturn Award for Best Horror Film by the Academy of Science
Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films, USA; star Tobin Bell was nominated for the 2007 MTV
Movie Award for Best Villain; Bell and Shawnee Smith received a joint Spike TV
Scream Award nomination for Most Vile Villain (awards ceremony to be held October
23, 2007).
SAW IV
Director: Darren Lynn Bousman;
Screenplay: Patrick Melton & Marcus Dunstan
Story by Patrick Melton & Marcus Dunstan and Thomas Fenton
Fans may well be wondering what SAW IV holds, given that Jigsaw died at the
end of SAW III. Though SAW IV is not a prequel, Jigsaw remains a prominent character.
How SAW IV solves this dilemma is just part of the fun. Says director Darren Lynn
Bousman, “Jigsaw’s death in SAW III left us with a major creative challenge, but also a
very exciting one. We had to do something really smart and different with this movie, lest
we fall prey to sequel-itis or self-parody. SAW IV became an opportunity to up the ante
-9-
and go even deeper into Jigsaw’s story, his philosophies and obsessions. Given who
Jigsaw is and what he’s done, we think it makes for quite a horrifying journey.”

GIVING TIL IT HURTS: THE ANNUAL SAW BLOOD DRIVE
The SAW franchise is not only about big-screen blood; it also about the blood that saves
lives. With the release of the first SAW in 2004, Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures embarked on a
cutting-edge promotion tailored specifically to the franchise’s profile: a nationwide SAW blood
drive that exhorts fans to “Give Til It Hurts” to benefit the Red Cross. The SAW “Give Til It Hurts”
Blood Drive has become a key element of the SAW franchise, as much a part of its annual rituals as
the Halloween premiere date. Each year brings a new ad campaign photographed by Tim Palen,
Lionsgate Co-President of Theatrical Marketing and fine art photographer, and featuring the SAW
nurses, seductive angels of questionable mercy and considerable visual impact. In the first three
years of the blood drive, SAW filmgoers donated nearly 38,000 pints of blood to help save as many
as 112,500 lives.
This year, the SAW “Give Til It Hurts” Blood Drive has acquired two important new
partners, the American Red Cross and Yahoo!, to help make this year’s campaign is bigger, better
and more bloodily ambitious than ever. Lionsgate and the American Red Cross entered into their
first formal partnership to administer the SAW IV Blood Drive on a nationwide basis. The national
organization will join local Red Cross chapters in setting up donation centers, a commitment that
will more than quadruple the number of centers, from 250 to 1200. SAW star Tobin Bell is featured
in several PSA’s advertising the event.
Meanwhile, Yahoo! is providing massive online support for the SAW IV Blood Drive as
Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures’ key online partner. In addition to providing hundreds of millions of
impressions across Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Mail, and Yahoo Movies, Yahoo! is also hosting the
Blood Drive website. By searching for "Saw Blood Drive" on Yahoo!, users can access the SAW
IV Blood Drive website, which features a branded, interactive Yahoo! Map that allows users to find
the closest Blood Drive to their geographic location. In addition to the interactive map, users can
watch the Blood Drive PSA with Tobin Bell, grab branded downloads, and tell a friend about the
Blood Drive.
The SAW IV Blood Drives are taking place at college campuses and other locations across
the country. Field drives began the week of September 16, 2007 and Red Cross blood drives began
the week of September 23rd. The SAW IV Blood Drive will continue through the first week of
SAW IV’s release.
Lionsgate’s goal for the SAW IV drive is to gather 60,000 pints, more than 2½ times the
amount collected in 2006. Collection totals from the SAW blood drives have doubled year after
year: during the 2004 inaugural drive, 4,200 pints were collected, in 2005, 10,000 pints were
collected, and in 2006, 23,493 pints were collected, resulting in tens of thousands of lifesaving
blood transfusions.

ABOUT THE CAST
TOBIN BELL (Jigsaw)
Whether you know him as Jigsaw in the wildly successful SAW movies, Nordic in THE FIRM or
even Ted Kaczynski in UNABOMBER – THE REAL STORY, Tobin Bell has displayed an
uncanny – and occasionally chilling – ability to burrow deep into a character’s psyche. Tobin’s
longevity and chameleon-like ability to assume any role has placed him in the upper echelon of
consummate professional actors. His success as the star of the SAW movies is a fitting reward for
almost 30 years spent appearing in movies and television shows, mainly in character roles.
Starting with the role of FBI agent Ernest Stokes in MISSISSIPPI BURNING (1988), Tobin Bell
has played a long line of interesting characters on both sides of the law: JFK conspirator David
Ferrie in RUBY, Mendoza in IN THE LINE OF FIRE, the riveting Nordic in THE FIRM,
gunfighter Dog Kelly in THE QUICK AND THE DEAD, Lucian Morano in SERIAL KILLER, a
parole officer in GOODFELLAS, the voice of Zaragosa in DreamWorks’s ROAD TO EL
DORADO, and roles in “Overnight Delivery”, HBO’s “The Fourth Floor”, “Good Neighbor”,
“Black Mask 2”, “Loose Cannons”, “Malice”, and “Powerplay.”
Tobin is a familiar face to viewers of TV movies and dramas (though comedy fans will recognize
him as Ron from “Seinfeld”). Tobin has been a prominent guest star on some of the most
critically acclaimed and popular dramas of the last decade: as attorney Nathan Volk on the NBC
drama “Revelations”, with Bill Pullman, Natasha McElone and John Rhys-Davies; as Peter
Kingsley in five episodes of “24”; as Agent Dreyer on “Alias”; and as Karl Storm in one of the
fans’ favorite episodes of “Walker: Texas Ranger.” Tobin has also appeared on “The West
Wing”, “The Guardian”, “The Sopranos”, “Charmed”, “Once and Again”, “X-Files”, “Stargate”,
“Silk Stalkings”, “ER”, “La Femme Nikita”, “NYPD Blue”, “Murder One”, and “Chicago Hope”.
His resume also includes the television movies-of-the-week ONE HOT SUMMER NGIHT,
BABYSITTER’S SEDUCTION, MORTAL FEAR, and DEEP RED.
Tobin comes by some of his acting skill naturally; his mother is the British actress Eileen Bell.
But Tobin also learned from the best, studying with Lee Strasberg and Ellen Burstyn at the New
York's Actor Studio and with Sanford Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse. On the New York
stage Tobin has appeared at the New York Shakespeare Festival, the New York Public Theater,
Ensemble Studio Theater, and Playwright’s Horizons.
Tobin was born in New York City and raised in Weymouth, Mass. As befits the star of “thinking
men’s horror movies,” Tobin is a graduate of Boston University, with a master’s degree in
Environmental Education from Montclair State College. Hobbies include playing the guitar,
taking wildlife photographs and making frequent climbing trips to the Presidential Range of New
Hampshire’s White Mountains. Also a writer, Tobin has completed several screenplays and stage
plays. He is married, with two children, and splits his time between homes in New York and Los
Angeles.
SCOTT PATTERSON (as Agent Strahm)
Probably best known for his role of Luke Danes on the critically-acclaimed WB series “Gilmore
Girls,” Scott Patterson is an accomplished actor in film and television and also a former major
league baseball player.
- 12 -
Born in Philadelphia and raised in New Jersey, Scott attended Rutgers University. A
professional-caliber pitcher, upon graduation he signed with the Atlanta Braves. Scott also
played for the New York Yankees and the LA Dodgers before retiring and focusing his attentions
elsewhere.
Scott began studying acting in New York with renowned acting coaches Robert Lewis and
Sondra Lee. He was trained at the Actors’ Studio by such notables as Paul Newman and Arthur
Penn.
Since then, Patterson has appeared on the big screen in LITTLE BIG LEAGUE with Jason
Robards, THREE WISHES with Patrick Swayze, RHAPSODY IN BLOOM with Penelope Ann
Miller and HER BEST MOVE alongside Lisa Darr.
On television, Scott has guest starred opposite some of the top leading women of the small
screen. He has played the love interest of “Elaine” (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) on “Seinfeld,” “Grace”
(Debra Messing) on “Will & Grace” and also opposite Jennifer Grey’s character in “It’s Like,
You Know” and Sharon Lawrence on “Fired Up.” He has also appeared in several telefilms
including ALIEN NATION: DARK HORIZON and voiced the character of “Lt. Farraday” on the
animated series JUSTIC LEAGUE UNLIMITED.
Currently, Scott can be seen on the CW’s “Aliens in America” as father “Gary Tolchuck.” Scott
resides in Los Angeles.
BETSY RUSSELL (as Jill)
Betsy Russell was born and raised in San Diego and gravitated toward acting at a young age. By
sixteen, Betsy could be seen in a national Pepsi commercial. The day after graduating high
school, she moved to Los Angeles.
Betsy quickly began her television career appearing in hits such as “The A-Team”, “T.J Hooker”
and “Family Ties.” Her first starring role was opposite Phoebe Cates in the seminal teen feature
PRIVATE SCHOOL. Betsy continued to work steadily until her self-imposed hiatus during
which she raised two sons.
Currently, Betsy can be seen as the wife of Jigsaw, the infamous killer from the popular SAW
franchise.
COSTAS MANDYLOR (as Hoffman)
This handsome actor quickly established himself in a handful of featured roles in films, and as
Officer Kenny Lacos on the acclaimed drama series "Picket Fences." Born in Australia of Greek
descent, Mandylor abandoned a professional soccer career after sustaining injuries and relocated
to Hollywood to pursue acting. He quickly won a co-starring role in the Holocaust drama
TRIUMPH OF THE SPIRIT. Director Oliver Stone cast him as an Italian aristocrat in his biopic
THE DOORS, and Mandylor went on to star in MOBSTERS. He also played an actor in the
soap opera spoof SOAPDISH. Other credits include the post-nuclear FIST OF THE NORTH
STAR, the futuristic sci-fi LAST EXIT TO EARTH, and he played Denzel Washington's doomed
partner in the big-budget sci-fi action VIRTUOSITY. Costas has also appeared on the hit show
- 13 -
"7th Heaven," and starred in the highest rated Sci-Fi Channel movie ever, DINOCROC. He can
also be seen most recently in MADE IN BROOKLYN, SAW III, TOXIC, and NOBODY.
LYRIQ BENT (as Rigg)
After graduating with high honors from Seneca College with plans on becoming a Computer
Graphic Technician, Lyriq Bent took up acting on a dare. Since then, Bent has appeared on both
film and television and his career has been on a steady rise. His eclectic mix of roles has made
him one of the most after actors working today.
Prior to landing a co-starring role on Lifetime’s “Angela’s Eyes”, Bent guest starred on the
UPN/Touchstone series “Kevin Hill” and the ESPN/Disney series “Playmakers.” Bent was also
featured in Columbia Tristar’s series “Street Time”, as well as the Canadian series, “Blue
Murder.” Bent also appeared in Robert Townsend’s mullet-award winning television movie
“10,000 Black Man Named George” and “Jane Doe” alongside Teri Hatcher.
Additionally, his film credits include starring opposite Mark Wahlberg and Andre 3000 in the
John Singleton film FOUR BROTHERS. TAKE THE LEAD with Antonio Banderas and Alfre
Woodard, and SAW II with Donnie Wahlberg. Bent was also featured in HONEY alongside
Jessica Alba and Mekhi Phifer and CRIME SPREE with Gerard Depardieu. Bent also starred in
director Michael Mabbott’s critically acclaimed debut feature film, THE LIFE AND HARD
TIMES OF GUY TERRIFICO, which premiered at the 2005 Toronto International Film Festival,
winning the award for Best First Canadian Feature Film. Most recently, Bent co-starred in Lion’s
Gate horror film SKINWALKERS with Jason Behr and Rhona Mitre.
ATHENA KARKANIS (Agent Perez)
Athena Karkanis has worked in theatre, television and has enjoyed success in several animated
series including the voice of Creepy in “Growing Up Creepy”, Decode’s “Delilah And Julius”,
The Comedy Network’s “Odd Job Jack”, “Tomboy”, Teletoon’s “Skyland” as well as Nelvana’s
CARE BEAR MOVIE II and III. Athena has also appeared in the several television series
including “Kevin Hill”, “Kojak”, “Train 48”, “Missing” and “Chappelle’s Show” and “The Best
Years.” Athena is currently filming OPERATION ESPIONAGE in Vancouver with Wesley
Snipes.

ABOUT THE FILMMAKERS
DARREN LYNN BOUSMAN (Director)
Darren Lynn Bousman grew up in Kansas, where he became heavily involved in the theater
community. He attended Kansas University where he majored in theater and film. During his
sophomore year, he left KU to attend a film school in Orlando, FL. It was in Florida that Darren
began writing and directing short horror films. Shortly after moving to Los Angeles, Darren
began directing music videos and commercials for such Utopian Pictures artists as Velma Fix,
and Tamela. In early 2003, Darren became a freelance director for The Firm, a Beverly Hillsbased management company. While working with The Firm, he has directed various music
videos and commercial spots, including the STATIC X hit “So” which made its premier on MTV
and FUSE. In 2004, Darren helmed the commercial campaign for VIRGIN COLA where he
directed five separate national spots. Darren was introduced to the Twisted Pictures producers
Gregg Hoffman, Mark Burg, and Oren Koules after penning the script THE DESPERATE,
which sparked the seed that Leigh Whannell and Bousman would later turn into 2005’s smash hit
SAW II. Upon completing principle photography for SAW II, Darren went on to direct the music
video "FORGET TO REMEMBER" for Mudvayne, but returned to helm SAW III in 2006.
Having finished production on SAW IV, Bousman is now directing REPO! THE GENETIC
OPERA in Toronto.
PATRICK MELTON (Screenwriter)
Patrick Melton hails from Evanston, Illinois and attended the University of Iowa where he met his
writing partner, Marcus Dunstan. After moving to Los Angeles and working for various film
companies, including Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Patrick attended Loyola Marymount University
where he received his MFA in Screenwriting. After that, Patrick worked as a story analyst for the
talent agency, International Creative Management. In 2004, Patrick won the filmmaking contest
Project Greenlight, produced by Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Chris Moore, and Wes Craven for the
script he co-wrote with Marcus Dunstan titled FEAST. Dimension Films is set to release the film
theatrically this October. Since then, Patrick and Marcus have been busy working on various
projects such as The Neighbor and The Midnight Man for Dimension Films (the latter of which
Marcus is directing), The Vineyard for Fox Television, and Saw IV for Twisted Pictures and
Lionsgate Films.
MARCUS DUNSTAN (Screenwriter)
Marcus Dunstan hails from Macomb, Il and attended the University of Iowa where he met his
writing partner, Patrick Melton. After moving to North Hollywood in January of 1999, Marcus
attempted to stay in shape by jogging in a nearby park. He found a gun in that park, ran back to
his apartment and shortly thereafter gained 50 pounds. Odd job after odd job followed as Mr.
Dunstan watched his youth dim under the mocking gaze of his Communications Degree. A
fateful call from Patrick Melton began with “what if we took a shot at writing a film?” That script
became FEAST, which was selected by Project Greenlight to become a motion picture aiming to
scare audiences this Halloween from Dimension Films. Marcus has since been counting his
blessings and still has about 35 pounds to lose.
- 15 -
MARK BURG (Producer)
As co-founder of Evolution Entertainment and Twisted Pictures, Mark Burg has assembled an
impressive client list that represents talent both in front of and behind the camera. Formerly the
president of Island Pictures, Burg is a veteran film producer, whose credits include films like
CAN’T BUY ME LOVE, BULL DURHAM, THE SANDLOT and THE GINGERBREAD
MAN. After partnering with Oren Koules to form Evolution, their list of films produced includes
JOHN Q, LOVE DON’T COST A THING, DUMB AND DUMBERER and GOOD ADVICE,
and the CBS Emmy nominated television series “Two and a Half Men.” Burg went on to produce
SAW, one of the most profitable films of 2004, which lead to a distribution deal with Lionsgate
Films and the formation of Twisted Pictures. The Twisted slate included CATACOMBS, SAW
II and SAW III. Twisted Pictures is also in pre-production on REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA
set for release in Spring 2008. Burg also served as a Producer on Universal's DEAD SILENCE
from SAW creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell.
OREN KOULES (Producer)
Oren Koules began his career as a commodities trader in Chicago, where he worked for eight
years before leaving as a member in good standing in 1992. Relocating to California, he began
his career as a producer, partnered with Dale Pollock in Peak Productions. The two produced two
successful films for Paramount, including the thriller SET IT OFF with Jada Pinkett and Queen
Latifah and MRS. WINTERBOURNE with Shirley MacLaine. Koules then served as Senior
Vice-President of Production with Paramount Pictures for two years before leaving to co-found
Evolution Entertainment with Mark Burg. Koules produced SAW, one of the most profitable
films of 2004, which lead to Evolution to signing a distribution deal with Lionsgate Films. A
new company, Twisted Pictures, would become the result of the success. The Twisted slate
included CATACOMBS, SAW II, and SAW III. Twisted Pictures is also in pre-production on
REPO! THE GENETIC OPERA set for release in Spring 2008. Koules served as a Producer on
Universal's DEAD SILENCE from SAW creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell. In addition
to producing over 16 films in the feature world, Koules is also an Executive Producer on the CBS
Emmy nominated television series “Two and a Half Men.”
DAVID A. ARMSTRONG (Director of Photography)
David Armstrong started working in films when he was 18 years old. His first project was a
UCLA Graduate thesis film in 1982. He walked onto the set offering to do any position to gain
set experience. After that, he never looked back and continued to work on student shorts and low
budget independent films. In 1985 he applied and was accepted to the California Institute of the
Arts where he earned and graduated with a BFA in cinematography in 1988. In 1990 he later
joined I.A.T.S.E. Local 600 (International Cinematographers Guild) as an assistant cameraman.
Six years later (1996) he applied and was accepted to the world-renowned American Film
Institute (A.F.I.) where he earned a masters degree in Cinematography in 1998. His first project
earned him the Mary Pickford Foundation Award for Cinematography. His second year, he won
the American Film Institute's “Franklin J. Schaffner” Fellows award in 1998. Armstrong was the
first student to receive the Inaugural (ASC) American Society of Cinematographers Heritage
Award at the 26th Annual Student Academy Awards in 1999. His film, JOHN, also won the
- 16 -
Student Academy Award Gold and was under Academy Consideration (the final 10) for the 72nd
Academy Awards. This led to an opportunity to shoot the feature, P.S. YOUR CAT IS DEAD,
directed by and starring Steve Guttenberg.
Armstrong has also been featured in the International Cinematographers Guild (I.C.G.) Film
Showcase two years in a row. In addition, he has had two short films featured at the Cannes Film
Festival/American Pavilion 2000 & 2001.
Recent released feature films have included the SAW feature films. The first one directed by
James Wan, which premiered January (2004) at Sundance Film Festival. Armstrong went on to
helm the visuals for SAW II and SAW III directed by Darren Lynn Bousman.
In between the SAW franchise films, Armstrong has shot an additional 6 feature films. Armstrong
just wrapped 2WO THIR13EN directed by Charles Adleman. Armstrong was also a Producer as

- 17 -
