Metro Parrot Head Newsletter (NY, NJ, CT) Vol. 15- No. 7 July 2007 That’s My Window On The World My Last Revolution around the Sun Time flies when you’re having rum, I mean fun. It is very hard for me to believe that I’ve just finished my third trip around the sun as the President of the METRO Parrot Head Club. I have now begun my last 365 days filling this position. On July 29, 2008 a new person will be taking over control and head the METRO PHC in a new direction. Marianne and I still have a lot of things to do before we say good-bye and step down as the Club leaders; we are not finished yet! Over the years there have been a number of very special people who have made my job as the METRO Parrot Head Club President an enjoyable journey. I would like to recognize a few this month: Eddie Travers who helped our Long Island group find a new home for our monthly Happy Hours. We left the smoke filled, dark and dingy “Fins Pub” and began a quest for a new location. After several failed attempts the METRO PHC Troubadour Ed found us a home at Zoink‘s, for that I will always be thankful. Corrie Sanchez for helping us take the METRO PHC Silent Auction for Breast Cancer up a notch by finding us a new bigger and brighter location at the Huntington Hilton. The room size has helped us expand and display more items which has increased our donation to this wonderful cause. Barbie Riley from Margaritaville Tequila for setting up her “Tequila Bar” at this outstanding event. Adding to the festivities and enjoyment of this METRO PHC annual function. While I’m on the subject of the Silent Auction a special thank you to our club DJ Herman Tumm for bringing your skills and supplying continuous music all night long. Carol and Dave Pohorylo from our METRO North PHC branch for the Jim Morris and the Big Bamboo shows for the annual Swim Across The Sound charity. This event grows bigger and bigger each year. Also from METRO North, Larry and Denise DeGennaro for making my Annual Report to PHIP look good with their big donation to the Alzheimer Memory Walk in Rockland County. Marianne, my beautiful wife and the METRO PHC First Lady and Secretary, for all the time, effort, energy and ideas that she has put into each and every detail of the Frosted Parrot Head Party. The FPHP has been transformed from a yearly dinner party into the party of the year. Thanks once again to Corrie for helping us find a new home for the Frosted after the old place folded up. Marianne also set up, collected and delivered our Toys for Tots items and she did the same for our Cat & Dog Toy Drive for The North Shore Animal League. Thanks once again Corrie for finding our Key West Happy Hour home. Mahalo, Al Al Straaik - President METRO Parrot Head Club FISHING ANYONE? Al is trolling the waters to see if he gets any bites for a Saturday sunset fishing excursion out of Captree. Sounds likes this one may be a keeper! Here’s a little “chum” for thought… JR EXPRESS ADULTS-$28 KEETS & SENIORS-$16 (keets 12 and under) Willing to take the bait? We need a minimum of 25 people, so email ASAP with the number of people in your party: buffettfans@gmail.com DRINK IT UP (JOE & LON), THIS ONE’S FOR YOU! Let’s be honest. We know you do it. You see the mail has arrived. Eagerly, you rush to the mailbox and grab the newest edition of the Parrot Press. Quickly, but carefully, you stir up that “frozen concoction that helps you hang on.” As the Margaritaville Frozen Concoction Maker does its thing, you turn up the volume on Sirius channel 31. You pour your tropical refreshment as you head southeast of disorder—or just simply ignore it all around you. You escape to your Margaritaville as you sip your drink and peruse the articles, updates, and stories that have been laboriously compiled by Joe Lombardi & Lon Ormanian for 13 years! Many of us have counted on Joe’s issues of the Parrot Press to keep us abreast of “all things Buffett”. The hours Joe & Lon have dedicated to the Parrot Press run into the thousands. Their hard work, perseverance, and sense of humor (not necessarily in that order) are what have made the Parrot Press the success we all enjoy and rely on each month. With 162 newsletters under their belt, Joe & Lon have passed the pen leaving me some mighty big shoes to fill. I look forward to the challenge that awaits me. I am overwhelmed with the votes of confidence and support I have received from Joe, Pete, Al, and fellow Parrot Heads, and of course my husband Scott. Thank you. I anticipate receiving your contributions, reviews, and schools of thought. If you would like to add to our monthly newsletter, email me at buffettfans@gmail.com prior to the 20th of each month. Now, raise that Boat Drink and let us congratulate Joe & Lon for a job well done! Okole maluna Joe & Lon! LANDSHARK SIGHTINGS! I can also attest that Tara Inn is not a misprint, as I enjoyed some there as recently as yesterday!) MARGARITAVILLE COMING TO CONNECTICUT June 28,2007, Boston Globe: High-rolling parrotheads and other fans of Jimmy Buffett will be happy to learn that a Buffett Margaritaville Restaurant is now part of Mohegan Sun's expansion plans. Mohegan Sun, a casino complex in Uncasville, Ct., announced in November a $740-million expansion plan; at a ground-breaking ceremony today, casino officials were expected to disclose that a Margaritaville restaurant, replete with tiki huts and a "cheeseburger in paradise" menu entree, will be part of the mix, along with a previously announced 1,000-room hotel. Part of the Buffett legend is that his love songs are not just about beautiful women, but also about stupefying slush drinks - a.k.a. the margarita. To ensure that patrons don't suffer from tequila deficiencies plans call for the restaurant to feature an eight-foot tall blender that fills with margaritas every hour, according to a publicist for the project. (Chris Reidy, Globe staff) Buffet vs. Chesney Catherine Artman, Vaunda Bonnett and William Loeffler of the Pittsburgh Tribune Review recently published this fun quiz that shows that maybe Kenny Chesney really does know how Jimmy Buffett feels!
