Angiosperms are divided into two groups:
1.Monocots.
2.Dicots.
What are monocots and dicots?
Monocots- Angiospermic plants having a single cotyledon or seed
leaf.
Dicots- Angiospermic plants having two cotyledons or seed
leaves.
How can you differentiate between Monocots and Dicots?
MONOCOTS
Embryo with single cotyledon
Pollen with single furrow or pore
Flower parts in multiples of three
Major leaf veins parallel
Stem vascular bundles scattered
Roots are adventitious
Secondary growth absent
DICOTS
Embryo with two cotyledons
Pollen with three furrows or pores
Flower parts in multiples of four or
five
Major leaf veins reticulated
Stem vascular bundles in a ring
Roots develop from radical
Secondary growth often present
