Student Certification in Teaching Fundamentals Program for Pitt Public Health Students Select from a non-credit program or a three credit course About | The Student Certification in Teaching Fundamentals program is for current Pitt Public Health students who are enrolled in a degree program. Students selecting the non-credit program earn credit towards the certification by attending workshops on teaching topics. Students selecting the credit program enroll in the Practicum in University Teaching (FACDEV 2200) course offered in the fall and spring semesters. Upon completion of the program (credit or non-credit), students are awarded a certificate of completion and a letter from the Associate Dean of Education. Copies of these documents are stored in the student’s academic file housed in the GSPH Office of Student Affairs. There are four major areas covered in the certification: - Teaching Fundamentals - Mentoring/Advising - Classroom Methods Both options, non-credit or credit, cover these topics. See below for further details. - Ethical Issues Non-credit program | Workshops are held throughout the academic year at GSPH and year-round at the University’s Center for Instructional Design and Distance Education (CIDDE). Participation in workshops for certificate credit will be tracked by the Graduate School of Public Health Office of Student Affairs. Requirements | Students are required to participate in a minimum of five workshops to earn the certificate. A workshop covering each of the four areas above must be completed. One elective workshop may be selected from other CIDDE teaching workshops or designated teaching focused workshops held at Pitt Public Health. 2015-16 Schedule of Teaching Focused Workshops | Details will available on the Professional Development Workshop Series Web page soon!
