Friday, March 9, 2007 (9 am – 1 pm) Tulsa Community College has been awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) Grant entitled: Stimulating Enthusiasm, Exploration and Discovery through Biotechnology Education (SEEDBEd). A portion of the grant aims to stimulate a pipeline of biotechnology students at TCC and provide students with a seamless educational pathway into the field of biotechnology. The grant targets minority populations who are under-represented in science professions. As a part of NSF’s Advanced Technology Education, the grant promotes diversity in the technical workforce. If accepted, you will join other groups of science teachers with high school students for a day of career exploration and active learning. The sending school is requested to make a commitment of one faculty/ sponsor to accompany a maximum of twelve students throughout the extravaganza activities. Each group of twelve students and one faculty will receive free lunches and be reimbursed for bus transportation. Our goal is to provide this opportunity to partner schools in the grant and schools demonstrating a minority near-majority population. If your application is selected, we will request the contact information on the students at a later date. Because of very limited staff, we regret that we cannot notify all applicants, therefore please keep in touch with us. While space is limited to a total of one hundred students, we will continue with future annual extravaganza events.
