Projects might focus on future careers, youth violence prevention, family relations, traffic safety, community service, and healthy living. Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a dynamic and effective national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and addresses important personal, family, work and societal issues through family and consumer sciences education. FCCLA provides students with the opportunity to participate in its many national programs. The Michigan FCCLA Statewide Community Service Project, “Save the Day” focuses on making positive change in members’ homes, schools and communities to become more Eco-Friendly. Family, Career and Community Leaders of America’s programs are designed to integrate with Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum, meet the Michigan Family and Consumer Sciences Academic Standards, and connect to Career Pathways. Dynamic Leadership is integrated with all FCCLA programs. Families First strengthens bonds between family members. Power of One emphasizes personal development. Career Connection guides students to discover strengths, target career goals and create a plan for achieving a rewarding lifestyle. Financial Fitness is a peer education program for consumer education. Student Body is a program that teaches youth to eat right, be fit, and make healthy choices. STOP The Violence is designed to educate peers to recognize, report and reduce the potential for youth violence. Two other exciting national programs -MORE- are Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety and Financial Fitness. Students also compete in STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Events, which showcase their leadership and proficiency skills.
