By participating and preparing for the Stock Market Game, students will be engaged in authentic tasks that replicate real life workplace challenges. An example of a performance based, authentic task begins with the Stock Market Web Quest. Working together, students will learn how to use different internet resources to read, interpret information, formulate answers to questions and complete the Web Quest task. Also, students will work daily with different Computer application tools to learn about the Stock Market and participate in a “real world” simulated Stock Market Game. Participation in such authentic tasks will help students to learn about real-world problem solving, critical thinking, communication and collaboration - these are critical 21st Century Workforce skills that are necessary to prepare students for success in a competitive global economy. The student will demonstrate an understanding of the different characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of various types of companies by successfully completing Stock Market MS Word 2010 assignments (historical electronic timeline of company). The student will demonstrate an understanding of the different types of brands and parent companies by successfully completing “What Is A Brand?” assignment The student will demonstrate an understanding of stocks, calculate gains and losses and create a company profile by successfully completing one of the tiered assignments (Prezi.com presentation). The student will demonstrate an understanding of how to critique stock tables and formulate recommendations to maximize their stock portfolio returns by successfully completing one of the tiered assignments. The student will understand how to assess and design their team’s stock portfolio by creating a “Hunting For New Stocks” electronic organizer document.
