Project Background: Yes Youth Can! Kenya is a youth-owned, youth led, and youth managed initiative designed to improve the social and economic status of young people and build peace through a network of community leaders. Funded by United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Yes Youth Can- Western (YYC-W) is one of six regional programs across the Country supporting Kenyan youth to achieve a greater voice in national reform, creating new livelihood opportunities through a network of youth supported by alliances of public and private linkages and institutions. The YYC-W vision is to have an empowered Kenyan youth in Western Province exhibiting leadership in peace-building, social service and economic prosperity for holistic community development. YYC-W embraces a youth driven development approach which engages youth at village level to form and develop their own organizations Known as Village Youth Bunges (VYBs) Mobile Movement, in partnership with Winrock International, created the YYC Digital Networking Channel on Mobile Movement’s website. The YYCW Channel profiled 51 select youth bunges that are establishing or running small businesses. Trained on using mobile smart phones to access the site that is connected to individual bunge project pages on the channel, they broadcast their stories about participating in the Yes Youth Can! Western initiative on growth and development of their enterprises, the challenges experienced, and their hopes and dreams for the future. To look at the web interface www.mobilemovement.tv/winrock of the Yes Youth Can! Invited businesses and community development organizations can post jobs, trainings and events as well. Currently, a number of mainstream businesses, particularly hotels and restaurants, have registered on the site.
