Deusen Prize (2010) for excellent work in 19th-Century American History.

B.A., History, Houghton College, Houghton, NY, 2006. Focus was American History, but also
included courses in Middle Eastern, Latin American, Europe and Asian History. Also spent a
semester abroad in London studying theology, art history, economics, literature and the History
of Islam. Regularly earned Dean’s List and Dean’s Honors List.

Responsibilities: Work with supervisors and fellow baristas to create a memorable Starbucks
experience, with an emphasis on quality control and customer service.
Location Supervisor, Aramark Foods, 2011-2012.

Responsibilities: Train and supervise eighty-person crew of student baristas; assist with quality
control and ordering. Starbucks store is second-busiest university Starbucks (NYU) in the
country.
Barista/Café Supervisor, Borders Books, Music and Café, 2007-2009.
Victor, NY
Responsibilities: Customer service, inventory and ordering, quality control, training and
supervising crew of about five baristas. Cut waste by a third by implementing new standards for
pastry display and coffee brewing.
Crew Member and Crew Leader, Houghton College Conference Crew, 2006-2007
Houghton, NY
Responsibilities: Assisted with summer programming at Houghton College by cleaning rooms
and dormitories, setting up lighting and sound equipment and liaising with conference leaders to
ensure their needs were met.
Staff Writer, Sardinia Standard newspaper, 2006-2007.
Sardinia, New York
Responsibilities: Light traveling and phone duty across western New York to follow potential
stories including a local environmental group’s fight to stop pollution in the Genesee River, a
Christmas outreach to Iraq veterans, and the influence of the Amish on the area.
