Chapters 1 – 4

1.

Brahmin (noun): A member among the highest priestly class in the Hindu caste system.

2.

Discontent (adjective): a feeling of dissatisfaction or discontentedness.

3.

Ablutions (noun): the process of cleansing oneself.

4.

Ascetic (adjective): the exercise of extreme self-discipline by denouncing world possessions.

5.

Samanas (noun): a sect of Hindus who practice an ascetic away of life in order to experience the pain of the world.

6.

Atman (noun): the Hindi word for “soul.”

7.

Nirvana (noun): In Buddhism and Hinduism, the liberation of the soul from bodily existence.

8.

Enlightenment (noun): In Buddhism, the process in which one escapes all worldly suffering.

9.

Bliss (noun): happiness, gladness, contentment.

Abate (verb): to beat down, demolish, destroy.

6. Brahman (noun): In Hinduism, the supreme-being; the ultimate goal in living; the source of divine in all living things.

7. Emanate (verb): to pour out; to send forth; to emit.

8. Precocious (adjective): someone who is advanced, or mature in development.

9. Pallid (adjective): lacking color, pale, weak, feeble.

10. Illustrious (adjective): glowing, shining, emitting light.
