Online Homework Registration – University of Texas
To get an ID – You may use the same one from a previous class if you remember it. Can’t remember? Follow
the instructions below.
 Go to https://quest.cns.utexas.edu/student/main (There is a link to this site from my website)
 (You can also web search “quest utexas” – it should be the first site listed)
 Click on “I need a UT EID”
 Click “Continue”
 Answer “no” to all questions and click “Continue”
 Fill in the requested information, including First and Last name.
 Your password should be your school password. You need to remember it – I CANNOT LOOK IT UP FOR
YOU
 Proceed until you have an EID – it will be your initials followed by numbers.
 You should record both your EID* and your password**
I can look up your EID once you are registered for my course number
** I can NEVER look up your password, I do not have access
To register for my class
 Go to https://quest.cns.utexas.edu/student/main (There is a link to this site from my website)
 Click “Log In to Quest” in the top right corner
 Enter your EID and password to log in (Do this to log in for the rest of the year)
 Click on “Enroll in New Course”
 For IPS Physics, type 011415. For IPS Chemistry, type 01615. Click on “Lookup Course Info”
 In the drop-down menu, select your class:
 “IPS Physics Semester 1 2015” or IPS Chemistry Semester 1 2015
 Click “Request Enrollment”
 I can now approve your enrollment in the class.

This is a BIG part of your grade – do not wait until the deadline. You may NOT drop any online scores.
Print it out and show your equations and work. I will not help you without work.
Be logged into YOUR account when sharing a computer. Enter answer into the correct problem number.
NO units – just enter the number. Use decimals, NEVER use fractions.
Do NOT round any numbers in your work until your final answer is found. Learn the “Store” function of your
calculator (Mrs. Newman can help).
Use at least four significant digits for your final answer.
Check the units given and the units required.
“Magnitude” means size (no negatives in your answer)
If you experience computer trouble on due date, see me or contact me before school the next day
Scientific notation:
2,100,000 = 2.1x10^6 = 2.1e6
(all examples will work)
0.000567 = -5.67x10^-4 = -5.67e-4
Printing your assignment in school
o Click the print icon
o Under “Page Scaling” choose the option “Multiple Pages per Sheet”
o Under “Pages per sheet” choose 2 (any more than 2 pages can get too small to print properly)
o You should see a sample showing two pages side by side on a horizontal paper
