Generic Position Description

The Simulation Researcher’s main responsibility is to conduct and implement the research strategy for the SLE within a specific clinical speciality. The Simulation Researcher plans and conducts experiments to increase the body of scientific knowledge on topics related to simulation. They may also aim to develop new, or improve existing processes in simulation or provide a new body of evidence for different aspects of simulation. This role may vary depending on the SLE but is often held in conjunction with a Senior

Instructor/Educator’s role.

Generic Position Description – Simulation Researcher

Responsibilities/Duties

This position will be responsible for:

1.

Implementing a research strategy for the SLE.

2.

Functioning as an expert resource in matters relating to simulation research.

3.

Research sources of current clinical information related to streams or projects.

4.

Collecting sample and analytical research for simulation based training through the provision of field-based technical research.

5.

Supporting the short-, intermediate-, and long-term research goals of the SLE.

6.

Identifying partners for programs and research.

7.

The professional development and mentoring of young researchers.

8.

Planning and conducting experiments and analysing or interpreting the results; keeping accurate records of work undertaken.

9.

Dissemination of findings of research projects by presentation at conferences or by publication.

10.

Writing original papers for publication in peer-reviewed medical or scientific journals.

Selection Criteria

Specialist Expertise

1.

Must have post-graduate qualifications in research design or equivalent experience and a sound knowledge of simulation education using a range of simulation modalities.

2.

Extensive knowledge of simulation services, technologies, and applications and educational theory.

3.

Works in a self-directed manner and consults the Director and other team members appropriately.

4.

Analytical and statistical skills to produce and generate of reports and findings.

Knowledge and Skills

1.

Completion of an undergraduate degree in an appropriate discipline or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training

2.

Keen ability to undertake research activities including field-work, sample preparation, extraction and processing, method development, reporting on findings.

3.

Knowledge of and experience with inter-professional education, simulation, simulated patients and clinical skills training methods in health professional education is beneficial.

4.

High level of communication, interpersonal and client relationship skills and an ability to communicate and collaborate within a multidisciplinary framework.

Desirable Qualifications/Skills /Knowledge and Experience

1.

Masters or doctoral degree in a related field or in the process of obtaining such qualification.

2.

Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to simulator functions

3.

Any further education will be viewed as highly desirable.
