Abstract for a poster contribution at CISBAT Topic #2. Sustainable building envelopes (ecobuildings) to be shown as well at IVIS Title : Revisiting Service Life Prediction of Vacuum insulation panels Samuel Brunner1, Mark Zimmermann1, Hans Simmler2 1 Empa, Laboratory for Building Technologies, CH-8600 Dübendorf Switzerland samuel.brunner@empa.ch, Tel +41 44 823 47 68 2 now at Swisspor, Bahnhofstrasse 50, CH-6312 Steinhausen, Switzerland Vacuum Insulation Panels (VIPs) have been used for building applications in Switzerland for 10 years. Until 2003, only little scientific data on the extent and the relevant modes of their degradation was available. Within a project of the International Energy Agency (IEA) these topics were addressed and our first prediction presented to the scientific community at the CISBAT conference in 2003. Today, 6 years later, predictions based on laboratory results are compared to experimental data obtained from on-site measurements carried out at a roof terrace construction and on a freezing room floor.
