Bruce C.H. Cheng is the founder and chairman of Delta Group. Under his leadership,
Delta has sustained 37 years of vigorous growth to become a world leader in power
supplies and electronic components that are employed throughout the global computer,
telecommunications, consumer electronics, and networking industries.
Currently the world’s number one provider of switching power supplies, Delta is a
major source for power management, components, visual displays, industrial
automation, networking, and renewable energy products. The company has plants in
Taiwan, China, Thailand, Japan, Mexico, India, and Europe, as well as R&D centers
and sales and service offices throughout the world.
Mr. Cheng has built Delta Electronics into an internationally recognized,
award-winning organization. In 2007 Delta was honored to receive the top Corporate
Social Responsibility award from Global Views Magazine for the third year in a row,
as well as CommonWealth Magazine’s first Corporate Citizen award. Delta has
received the "Most Admired Company" award from Commonwealth Magazine for six
years in a row.
Delta continues to win “Best of the Best” awards from major, first-tier global
customers. In 2007 customer awards included Nortel’s Supplier of the Year Award
and Intel’s Preferred Quality Supplier Award. Customer recognition in 2005 and 2004
included Siemens Communications’ Supplier of the Year Award, Microsoft’s Vendor
of the Year Award (both years), as well as Cisco Systems’ Best Supplier of the Year
Award. In 1999, Delta received Dell’s Platinum Supplier Award.
In 2006, Delta’s Tainan Plant, the first green factory in Taiwan, won the first
Gold-rated Green Building Certificate presented by Taiwan’s national government.
Delta is a certified Sony Green Partner and has implemented green, lead-free
production and recycling and waste management programs at all its plants for many
years.
In 2004, Delta received The Asset magazine’s “Best Corporate Governance Award.”
Delta has earned the confidence of foreign investors, who hold a larger proportion of
Delta stock than of any company on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
Mr. Cheng has been called Taiwan’s first “Chief Environmental Officer” by the
Taiwan media. Since the beginning, Mr. Cheng has dedicated the company to
preserving the natural environment through product innovation and energy-saving
technologies. In 1990, he established the Delta Electronics Foundation to promote
environmental and natural resource conservation. Delta has also joined with Nokia,
HP, NTT, and Philips as a member of MIT’s Oxygen Alliance to develop
human-centered computer technology.
Mr. Cheng founded Delta Electronics in 1971 to produce television components. Prior
to that, he held management positions at TRW in engineering, production, and quality
control. Mr. Cheng began his career as an aeronautic instrument engineer at Air Asia
Co. after receiving a BSEE degree from National Cheng Kung University.
In 2007, Mr. Cheng received an honorary doctorate from National Central
University’s (NCU) College of Earth Sciences and an honorary doctorate in
engineering from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in recognition of his
promotion of environmental sustainability while pursuing advances in technology and
his outstanding contributions to the development of the world’s electronics industry,
respectively. In 2006, the Chinese Management Association (CMA) presented Mr.
Cheng with its highest management award. Another honor conferred upon Mr. Cheng
in 2006, was an honorary doctorate in engineering from National Tsing Hua
University.
