Dear Parents,
We are very pleased to inform you of several new security measures that are being
implemented at M.E.S. beginning with the 2014 – 2015 school year. The safety and
security of our students is our first priority.
First, we are extremely pleased to have our School Security Officer,
Mr. Timothy Clayton, with us again this year. Mr. Clayton is in and out of our
school building, at varying times, on a daily basis – and is also present during the
arrival and dismissal times of our students.
The following is a list of detailed information regarding new security measures:
Security Cameras:
Exterior cameras and additional interior cameras were installed over the summer
months. In total, we now have 15 exterior cameras around the perimeter of the
building – and 18 interior cameras throughout the hallways of our school.
3M Safety and Security Film:
The Board of Education approved the purchase of 3M Safety and Security Film that
will be attached to our windows and glass doors for the highest level of protection.
The window films provide a strong, micro-layered, shatter/tear-resistant film
designed to help hold glass fragments together, reducing injury from flying glass in
severe weather or during a break-in. The films hold the glass together and create a
strong shield, slowing down criminals in the event of a forced entry. They also
provide superior performance in blast or impact events.
TPASS K12 Visitor Management System (Eyemetric Identity System):
Eyemetric provides a solution for educational institutions looking to enhance identity
management in their school building.
The visitor-management system that we have just recently installed is called the
Teacher-Parent Authorization Security System (TPASS). The system allows us to
create individual Student Profiles that clearly show the children and a list of people
who are authorized to sign them out of school and those not authorized (due to
situations such as custody issues – or a restraining order). Instant text messages can
also then be sent to parents saying their child was picked up, when, and by whom.
The system also enables us to check whether anyone entering our school building is a
registered sex offender. The software system scans visitors’ driver’s licenses and
checks the name and address against a national database of registered sex offenders.
Anyone whose name appears in the database will not be allowed to enter. For
additional security measures, the system can “Red Flag” visitors who are no longer
permitted on school grounds.
TPASS allows us the opportunity to keep a detailed and accurate record of all school
visitors, including their photograph, name and address, and a history of when and
why they visited our school. For all visitors, the system prints a dual-photo badge
for each school visit for each visitor – and a badge for the child or staff member
being visited.
In addition, please remember that during the normal hours of the school day, all
doors at the elementary school will remain locked. Visitors are only permitted to
enter the school through our main entrance. After being buzzed in through
the front door, visitors will now be greeted in the lobby area by our Courtesy Aides,
Mrs. Sheri Trainor or Mrs. Julie Bryzcki. Mrs. Trainor and Mrs. Bryzcki will ask to
see your license for identification and will ask the reason for your visit. As a result,
please remember that upon every visit, you must show proper ID (Driver’s License).
Whenever you have arranged for another individual to pick your child up during the
school day, please remind the authorized person that they must also have proper ID
(Driver’s License). If you need to have someone pick up your child who has not
already been authorized to do so, you must contact the school (732-528-8810
Extension 2005 or 2002) to provide us with a verbal confirmation -- or send in a
signed note with your child.
Once again, if you are visiting a classroom, a teacher, or attending a meeting, a
Visitor Badge will be printed out for you to wear. The badge must be worn at all
times in the building – and returned to Mrs. Trainor or Mrs. Bryzcki when you
leave as a method of signing out of the building after your visit.
Once again, we are extremely pleased to share with you information regarding our
new school security initiatives. We appreciate your cooperation and hope that you
share our enthusiasm for the increased security measures.
Sincerely,
Colleen Graziano
