PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAY FRIDAY OCT. 25TH –
NO REGULAR CLASSES FOR STUDENTS
Pen-high.com - Check out the recently uploaded pictures of
Grad 2014 students. Also new sport action pictures of field
hockey, cross country running and intramurals have been
uploaded as well.
HALLOWEEN COSTUME CONTEST! Come to the common
area at lunch on October 31st in your costume – show it off and
win prizes!
Grade 11 and 12 Boys Basketball: All grade eleven and twelve
boys interested in playing Sr. Boys Basketball this season please
come to room 227 Wednesday October 30th at lunch for a brief
but important meeting. Please speak with Mr. Nicolson in room
227 if you are unable to attend.
GEM meeting Thursday at 1:00 in room 136.
Attention grade 11 & 12 students. On Thursday, October
24th, a representative from Mount Royal University, in
Calgary, will be at Pen-Hi. Grab your lunch, and a friend, and
come to the counseling office, from 1:00-1:45pm, to hear the
presentation. This presentation is still going ahead at 1:00,
regardless of the early dismissal today.

Last block of the day in the conference room (main office) and
snacks will be provided! If interested please pre-register with
Michelle Boehm in the counselling office during breaks/lunch.
Lakers Clothing Orders: Lakers clothing orders can be picked
up at the main office or outside the P.E office. Please see Mr.
Grant in the P.E. office if you need to check for sizes or need
some help understanding the order form.
Team Hoodies: There will be an order going out for Laker’s
team members who want to order a hoodie. The Under Armour
hoodies cost $65. Come and see Mr. Grant if you need to check
sizes.
Scorekeeping: We are in need of volleyball scorekeepers for
this weekend for the Sr. Girls Volleyball Tournament all day
Friday and Saturday. Please see Mr. Grant or Mr. Gunning if you
can help (we do credit you $5/game or earn volunteer hours for
P.E. or Leadership).
Reach for the Top - There will no Reach for the Top this week.
Reach for the Top will resume on Halloween (October 31st). If
you are interested in answering trivia questions (like Jeopardy),
please come to Room 304 on Thursdays at lunch.
SWIM TEAM: We will have a team practice Saturday, Oct 26,
7:30AM to 9:00AM. Please come out if possible. We would like
to work on relays before valleys. If you cannot attend, please let
Mr. Nackoney know.
Drop everything and read! Monday, October 28th is Drop
Everything and read day! All teachers and students should drop
everything they are doing at 11:00 and continue to read until
11:20. Yes, there will be prizes!!
Pottery Club is set to start Wed. Oct. 30! See Mrs. Reid in the
studio for more information and to sign up.
LUNCHBOX MENU
There will be a Europe trip meeting on Monday, Oct. 28th in
the library at Pen High at 7:00 pm. If you are going on this year’s
trip, please be at this important meeting!
Student Price cards will be available to purchase until
October 31st in the accounting office $9.00

Okanagan College Career Fair 2013: Sunday Nov. 3 10:30 3:00 KLO CAMPUS (KELOWNA)
Come to one of the Interior’s largest career fairs and meet

The Horatio Alger Jim Pattison BC Scholarship Program
DEADLINE TO APPLY: DEC. 1 2013
Any student who meets the following criteria is encouraged to
apply:
• Enrollment in their final year of high school, taking classes
during spring 2014, progressing normally toward graduation in the
spring/summer 2014, with plans to enter a post-secondary
institution in Sept. 2014
• A strong commitment to pursuing and completing a degree at an
accredited public or private post-secondary institution in Canada;
• Critical financial need ($50,000 or less net income per family is
preferred; if higher, an explanation must be provided);
• Involvement in co-curricular and community activities;
• A minimum grade percentage of 65
• Attend a high school and live in British Columbia; and
• Canadian citizenship.

TD Canada Trust Scholarship. DEADLINE: Dec. 6, 2013. They
are interested in hearing from students who have demonstrated
consistent and outstanding dedication to solve a community
problem or make their community better as a whole. For example,
you may be cleaning up the environment, promoting social
justice, or fighting child poverty. They carefully review all
applications, taking into consideration not only the applicants'
contributions to their communities but also their personal
circumstances and any special challenges they may have faced

The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award recognizes humanitarian
volunteer work. There is no set discipline students must study in
order to receive the award, but they must maintain their
academic, voluntary and career performance to a satisfactory
level. The deadline to apply is Feb. 1

RE/MAX of Western Canada 2014 Quest for Excellence
Bursary Program
The Quest for Excellence Program is a bursary program for grade
12 students in Western Canada. It was established by RE/MAX of
Western Canada to recognize the success and ongoing pursuits
of Western Canadian students in regards to leadership and
community contribution initiatives. Each year, RE/MAX will award
16 bursaries of $1,000 each totaling $16,000 in Western Canada.
