UK COMMITTEE FOR UNICEF JOB DESCRIPTION Section 1 Job Title Head of Public Fundraising Reporting to: Director of Individual Giving Department/Team Public Fundraising Team Job Location UNICEF House Salary Band I £34,928 - £41,581 + a job premium of £8420.00 Hours 35 hours per week Duration Permanent Section 3 UNICEF UK’s fundraising programme doubled in size from 2006 – 2010 and we have embarked on an ambitious five year plan for 2011 – 2015 aiming to increase the funds we raise for children by 85%. With this growth we have seen an increased complexity to the size and scale of our fundraising programme. We have also experienced an increase in the onset of humanitarian emergencies. Public Fundraising is a redeveloped team and it will incorporate our public fundraising teams who run successful programmes with community groups and community events. The Public Fundraising team will also lead on coordination of emergency appeals and provide dedicated project management expertise as a hub for new initiatives and innovations in public fundraising. We help governments to build schools, train teachers and provide textbooks so that every child can get an education. We support families and communities to care for children and protect them against exploitation and abuse, fulfilling their right to a childhood. We work with partners to ensure that every child has the opportunity to take part in sport and play. We support governments to build and equip health systems, train health workers and provide food and clean water, so every child can be as healthy as possible. UNICEF is also the world’s largest distributer of vaccines to the developing world. In 2008, we supplied vaccines for 56 per cent of the world’s children, protecting them against death from preventable diseases. UNICEF UK is a registered charity in the UK which raises funds for UNICEF’s vital work for children and also advocates for children’s rights both nationally and internationally. The Public Fundraising team is a major fundraising team at UNICEF UK and sits within the Individual Giving Directorate (IG) along with Direct Marketing, Trading, Marketing Data and Analysis and the Digital Hub. The team, which scales around major projects, currently comprises 8 staff, is responsible for community fundraising and events, raising money through schools, churches, students, organizations, individual fundraisers and running/challenge events. With the appointment of this position, the strategic project management of emergencies will become a key responsibility of the Head of Public Fundraising along with managing dedicated project managers of time-bound initiatives (such as the biennial telethon SoccerAid) and hot-housing new initiatives within fundraising. In 2011 the Fundraising Initiatives Team was responsible for income of approximately £2.5million. UNICEF UK raises at least £3 million a year from emergencies which can rise to £18m+ if major natural disasters occur. With DFID Match-funding, Soccer Aid 2012 has raised in excess of £4.5 million. To lead on and ‘sponsor’ key public fundraising projects as directed Regular contact with Supporter Services, Education, Media Relations, Public Affairs teams. Management of agency contracts Liaison with UNICEF Geneva based international contact as needed SoccerAid is a biennial telethon on ITV with a celebrity/legends football match. A team is put in place every two years (for 6 months + ) to project manage and deliver the event with support and expertise from existing teams at UNICEF UK. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Contribute to the management and strategic direction of Fundraising as a member of the Fundraising Leadership Team. 2. Champion ‘digital first’ thinking in UNICEF UK’s public fundraising, drawing effectively on expert support in designing, planning and delivering public fundraising initiatives. 3. Develop and implement the fundraising strategy for Public Fundraising including the identification of investment opportunities and risks. 4. Set, monitor and manage the delivery of five year strategic plans as well as annual or two year operational plans for mass participation events, third party events, annual fundraising initiatives, individual, organization and group supporters. 5. Lead and line manage the Public Fundraising Team, ensuring outstanding relationship and project management 6. Ensure we maximize the growth and lead generation potential in emergencies and act as the lead coordinator of emergency appeals across UNICEF UK. Provide effective project management of such appeals and lead and drive other cross-organisational initiatives and projects as agreed. 7. Champion and foster innovation across fundraising. Ensure the creation and operation of effective product development process, from idea generation, business case development and testing through to launch and post implementation review. 8. Ensure delivery of efficient and professional supporter care by teams in Public Fundraising including the provision of advice on charity law/best practice. 9. Oversee the development, and management of annual fundraising initiatives (e.g. schools product and churches product) including telemarketing support. 10. Plan, budget and monitor income and expenditure across the team according to agreed parameters. Provide regular reports for the Director of Individual Giving as required.
