The Office of Adolescent Health Discourse
September 24, 2013
Dear English 1311 Students:
Media is a powerful weapon capable of transforming behaviors, beliefs and thoughts. Sometimes they
are a source of negative information that only confuses and creates unhealthy habits in the whole
population but one of the groups most at risk are adolescents. Many people ignore the fact that massive
media is constantly bombarding people with stereotyped based advertisement, that can easily change
the perception of a developing human being such as teenagers. Media most of the time doesn’t reflect
what being young is, it rather dictates a role and certain rules meant to make teens fit in on certain
standards. This can sometimes originate severe problems and tough consequences.
The Office of Adolescent Health was funded in 2010 and since then its goal is working to be a helping
hand for teenagers by providing the necessary tools and information on different up to date topics in
order to increase consciousness and discernment of safety and health orientation. It also promotes
material for parents, broad public and distinct society types that assist juvenescence. The organization
gives as credible, clear and concise messages that connect with people and have a communication
value.
The Office of Adolescent Health presently guides teenagers in five health fields: reproductive health,
mental health, physical health, substance abuse, and relationships providing suggestions from distinct
government departments. They approach teens by conferences, events and social networks for example
there are diverse twitter chats and a YouTube channel. News in adolescent health, press releases and
webinars of variant themes are available. It also indulges advice in physical health and nutrition, where
it points out data about chronic conditions, access to physical Health Services and healthy behavior in
the interest of avoiding and preventing harmful diseases like anorexia and bulimia, which are very
common nowadays. Present National statistics of physical health in the United States can be found too.
A calendar of upcoming events is displayed on the website giving a fast list of ceremonies and talks to
experience .The Office of Adolescent Health has had initiatives like the pregnancy assistance fund, teen
pregnancy prevention program and the national resource center for HIV-AIDS prevention among
adolescents which have led to great results shown in evaluation studies that are conferred in this site.
Evidence-Based programs as well as their implementation with sustainability
Resources and publications in the website offer the ability to look through books on the adolescent
health library, as well as e-updates which highlight interesting common topics and national and state
facts to get a better perspective of how teens think on a statistical level. The link Talking with Teens is
designed to give parents and other caring adults abilities and essential ways to start and keep a
connection with teenagers about sexuality, health and relationships. Words of advice for beginning a
conversation and information on relevant fields are there in order to help with this process.
The Office of Adolescent Health may be contacted by email at oah.gov@hhs.gov it or by phone: (240)
453-2846. It is a strongly complete website that can be used by adolescents and adults. Its design makes
it easy to search and find information on various topics. Constructive and convenient knowledge is
straightforward and captivating.
Sincerely,
Ana Karina Saenz
