It is a creative practice – centered in the studio – a hands-on, on-your-feet, down-and-dirty investigation into the process of devising work. We will explore language, movement, text, sound, physicality, script, voice, music and dance as the generative aspects of work in the vein of artists such as the SITI Company, Wooster Group, DV8, Charles Mee, Bill T. Jones, Frantic Assembly and Pina Bausch…(to name a few!) Using those who came before as our guide, the class will create a dance/theatre experience, from solo and duet work to group forms, that will culminate in an informal performance. Students are encouraged to bring their skill sets to this class – dancers speaking, actors singing, writers dancing – we want it all in the room with us. In other words, artists of all disciplines are welcome!
