THE
REDEEMER
REDEEMER L UTHERAN CHURCH
1054 Truman Avenue
Owatonna, MN 55060
March, 2013
A Congregation of The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod
Dear Fellow Redeemed,
We pray in the Lord’s Prayer,
“give us this day our daily bread.”
In his Small Catechism Martin
Luther points out that daily bread
includes everything that has to do with the support
and wants of the body. The explanation section of
the Catechism reminds us that our entire life
depends on God. We are to look to him for
physical as well as spiritual blessings and receive
those blessings with thanksgiving.
In addition, God does not want us to be selfish
but to share with those who are unable to work to
provide themselves with daily bread. This petition
also teaches us not to worry about the future but to
live contentedly in the confidence that the Lord will
give us what we need.
Food shelves across Minnesota make a
special effort to raise money during March
because what they raise during this month earns
more through the Minnesota Food Share program.
There are more than 300 food shelves in
Minnesota serving every county in the state. For
the most part they are able to keep up with the
demand for food but there is always more that can
be done. Last year the Steele County Food Shelf
served 3,671 individuals in 1,262 families.
For more information or with questions about
our food shelf, please call 455-2991.
As Christians we welcome every opportunity to
share with people the words of Jesus, “Man shall
not live by bread alone, but by every word that
comes from the mouth of God.”
Sincerely yours in Christ, Pastor Griebel
