gathering hymn - Grace of God Lutheran Church

Eighteenth Sunday After Pentecost
September 22, 2013
Statement of Welcome
As God and his love reached out to all through Christ, so we at Grace of
God reach out to you without exception. And that means you!!! Christ
welcomes all who come to him. All are loved by God.
As a community of God striving to be open to all people, we at Grace of
God welcome all to join us in our Lutheran heritage as we struggle to better
understand the mysteries of God’s teachings. We believe that Christ calls us to
reconciliation and wholeness, and we believe that the Gospel is God’s gift to all
people. We are also challenged by Christ to care for, to love, to understand,
and to listen to each other, regardless of age, gender identities, race, marital
status, sexual orientation, physical and mental abilities, addictions, legal record,
national origin, economic status, station in life. We celebrate together our unity
as God’s people.
We pledge to ourselves and to all others that we will strive to live as a
reconciling people, in our life together and in our outreach to the world around
us.
Welcome to Grace of God Lutheran Church!

About Grace of God
Our Lutheran tradition emphasizes Word (scripture and preaching) and
Sacrament (Holy Communion and Baptism). Every Sunday we read scripture and hear
a message based on scripture, and celebrate Holy Communion. We baptize at every
opportunity.
All baptized Christians, including children, are invited to receive Holy
Communion. If you are not baptized and would like to be, please see Pastor Judy. In
the meantime, you are welcome to come forward during Communion and receive a
blessing from the Pastor. Communion classes are held for all children and adults
wishing to learn more about the sacrament.
† To receive Communion: The ushers will direct you to come forward. You
will receive bread from the Pastor, and may then dip it in either wine (red) or grape
juice (white), a practice which is call intinction. For those with allergies: wheat-free,
gluten-free communion bread is available.
† About children and worship: We welcome children to worship with us.
Sunday School is provided for children during worship.
† About membership: We welcome people of any background to become
members of Grace of God. Please speak with the Pastor if you desire to become a
member. Members are received on the first Sunday of every month.
† Office Hours: The Grace of God office is located in the CHEER Center and
the hours are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The
Grace of God phone number is: 302 947-1044. Pastor Skip’s Office days are Tuesdays
and Wednesdays. Please call if you desire an appointment at another time.

P
C
Just and gracious God,
we come to you for healing and life. Our sins hurt others and
diminish us; we confess them to you. Our lives bear the scars of
sin; we bring these also to you. Show us your mercy, O God.
Bind up our wounds, forgive us our sins, and free us to love,
for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Savior.
Amen.
P
The apostle Paul assures us: "When we were dead in our trespasses,
God made us alive together with Christ, nailing the record of our sins to
the cross." Jesus says to you, + "Your sins are forgiven." Be at peace,
and tell everyone how much God has done for you.

APOSTLES' CREED
C
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy *catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen

GREAT THANKSGIVING
P
C
P
C
P
C
P
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give God thanks and praise.
It is indeed right that we should at all times and in all places offer thanks
and praise to you, O Lord, holy Father, through Christ our Lord; who on
this day overcame death and the grave, and by his glorious resurrection
opened to us the way of everlasting life. And so, with the Church on
earth and the hosts of heaven, we praise your name and join their
unending hymn:
11
12
P
In the night in which he was betrayed,
our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it,
and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my
body, given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to
drink, saying:
This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you
and for all people for the forgiveness of sin.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
P
C
Now let us pray as Jesus taught us:
Our father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those
who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and forever. Amen
Invitation to Communion
P
Christ invites you to a place of honor at this banquet.
Welcome to the feast.
As the ministers distribute communion, they say:
The body of Christ, given for you. The blood of Christ shed for you.
The communicant may say. Amen.
13
Taste and See (Repeat twice)
Choir will sing First Communion Hymn.
14
Second Communion Hymn: What Feast of Love
At the end of the meal, please stand as you are able.
P
C
The body and the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen you and
keep you in his grace.
Amen.
15
Prayer After the Meal
A
Let us pray. O God, as a mother comforts her child, so you comfort your
people, carrying us in your arms and satisfying us with this food and
drink, the body and blood of Christ. Send us now as your disciples,
announcing peace and proclaiming that the reign of God has come near;
through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
C
Amen.
