ABOUT LSU CAREER SERVICES Career Services’ 2011-12 Abbreviated Annual Report Connecting Students and Employers We hosted/co-hosted 17 recruiting, interviewing, networking and career enhancement events during the 2011-12 academic year: Career Expo (2), E. J. Ourso College of Business Networking Reception (2), Teacher Interviewing Day (2), College of Engineering Networking Reception (2), Art & Design Interviewing Day, Construction Interviewing Day (2), Summer & Part-time Jobs Fair, Networking Night at Manship, Student Involvement Fair, Work Experience Week, the Sophomore Success Series and the Humanities and Social Sciences Career Event. Meeting Unique Student Needs LSU Career Services’ team of career-planning experts . . . • held 3,232 appointments • administered 1,671 career assessments • facilitated 5,403 interviews • presented career information to 12,734 students • hosted 392 organizations through the Career Expo • assisted employers with 3,314 full-time job postings in Careers2Geaux The Job Search team surveyed international students to identify how our office could provide them with the information they need to navigate, cope, and eventually succeed in the job search process. As a result, the International Student Workshop was created and over 80 students attended in the spring. The generated interest has resulted in the creation of the International Student Workshop Series for fall 2012. Impacting Students The Career Decision Making team collaborated with First Year Experience for a second year to facilitate the Sophomore Success Series. This workshop series was designed to provide resources to assist students with their academic planning and career goals. The Experiential Education team and the Director worked with University officials to create an Internship Council. This council hopes to change University policy in effort to better serve students interested in earning credit for learning experiences outside the classroom. The Experiential Education team is working closely with the College of Engineering to re-invigorate the Engineering Cooperative Education Program (Co-op). The LSU Olinde Career Center To better meet the needs of students, alumni and employers, plans are underway for the LSU Olinde Career Center. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Thursday, May 10, in celebration of the future home of LSU Career Services in the Student Union. Fundraising efforts for this new state-of-the-art facility are still underway. The new center will open sometime in 2013.
