GRADUATE ASSISTANT – Career Peer Program

Position: The Graduate Assistant for the Career Peer Program reports to the Communication Manager
for the LSU Olinde Career Center. This position assists in retaining LSU students and preparing them for
employment.
Required Qualifications:
 Be enrolled as a full-time graduate student at LSU.
 Knowledge of LSU Olinde Career Center and of job search strategies.
 Possess excellent communication skills in all areas.
 Possess basic computer skills to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other related programs.
 Strong social media knowledge and skills.
 Model appropriate behavior for student leaders and the campus community.
 Be well-organized, detail-oriented and able to multi-task as needed.
 Ability to work both in a team and independently.
 Ability to lead a team of undergraduate students.
 Comfortable conducting group presentations and tours.
Desired Qualifications
 Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite.
 Familiarity with Careers2Geaux.
Duties & Responsibilities:
 Manage a group of undergraduate student career peers for the Career Peer Program,
including: advise this leadership group; coordinate recruitment, selection and training; conduct
regular mentor meetings; provide supervision to career peers.
 Perform career advising through: initial consultation of all services offered through the Career
Center; career decision-making; résumé and cover letter reviews; suggest job search and
networking strategies.
 Develop and conduct career-related presentations.
 Communicate and collaborate with campus and community constituents.
 Update and edit communications materials, including the Career Center website.
 Participate in meetings of the Division and Student Life’s MarComm group.
 Identify student success stories and create content for the Career Center website.
 Assist with communication projects associated with informing students about the LSU Olinde
Career Center’s resources, services and events.
 Assume leadership of the communication office in the absence of the Communication
Manager.
 Other duties as assigned by the LSU Olinde Career Center leadership team.
