In an effort to increase the number of students achieving the CHEM 116 prerequisite score, schedule mandatory office meetings with students that do not pass the 1st exam. Attempt to convince these students to attend SLA sections. An air of urgency needs to be impressed upon these students, especially if the perform poorly on the Toledo exam as well. 01/18/2013 - Of 87 students who completed the course and received a grade for CHEM115-001, only 63 passed the class with a C or better, for a 72.4% passing rate. Of those students who did not pass with a C or better, two problems were encountered. First, some students had weak backgrounds. Second, some students didn't put in the effort necessary to pass with a C or better. Status Indicator: Continuing or Ongoing Assessment Activity - Action Plan recommended Reporting Year: 2011-2012 Description of Assessment Method (optional): Students were assessed based upon exams and quizzes. On all exams, high scores were at least 97%. Low scores were <40%. Average scores Generated by TracDat a product of Nuventive. TheCourses - Physical Sciences - CHEM115 General Chemistry I - Overall Comprehension Students should be able to perform calculations to demonstrate comprehension in a number of topics covered in the first semester of the two semester general chemistry course series. These topics include, but are not limited to: atomic structure of atoms, chemical formulas, bonding, periodic trends, chemical reactions, equilibria, stoichiometry, and energy. Specific topics to be assessed via topic specific questions on the ACS First-Term General Chemistry Examination. Expectation of class average to meet nationals averages.
