very day, 20,000 students, employees, and
visitors make their way across the Cornell
University campus. Commuter and
Parking Services is committed to providing a safe
environment for pedestrians, cyclists, motorists,
and transit users, and has developed several
programs to responsibly manage traffic circulation
and parking on
campus.
Visitors find
that most
academic and
administrative
buildings and
residential areas
are within easy
walking distance
from even the
more remote
parking lots,
and that the
area’s public
transit system—
Tcat—provides
excellent service
to all points of the
campus.
For directions, maps, and short-term parking
permits, stop at a visitor information and parking
booth. Booths are staffed Monday through Friday,
7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the academic year, and
7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the summer months.
Alternative formats of this publication
are available on request to persons with
disabilities who cannot use the printed
format.

The university plays host to a number of events,
conferences, reunions, and camps. In most cases,
conference planners make parking arrangements
for the visitors and guests attending their
functions.
If you receive a conference
parking permit, it will list the
areas in which you may park.
Some permits offer only one
parking area, while others
may have several areas listed.
In some instances, you may
receive a one-day “scratchoff” permit. Please be sure
to follow the validation
instructions completely.
Please note that campus parking lots are restricted
to permit holders on weekdays (some lots are also
restricted evenings and weekends), and others—
such as residence hall lots—are restricted at all
times. Permit requirements are posted either at the
entrance or within each lot.
Cornell University is an equal
opportunity employer.
Conference & Event Parking
Transportation Services is committed
to engendering an environment
of safety and mutual respect for
pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists.

A Visitor’s Guide
To Getting Around the
Cornell University Campus
If you do not receive a
permit, stop at an information
booth or call 255-PARK for
assistance. You may need
to purchase a visitor permit
or use a metered area. It is
important to remember that
parking outside of the area
listed on your permit, or
improperly validating a scratch-off permit, could
result in a ticket.
Please refer to the map to determine where your
permit allows you to park. If you have questions,
call 255-PARK, or stop by an information booth.

GP Permits
GP permits are issued to vendors
to allow delivery drivers a place to
park when they pick-up or drop-off
passengers, packages, or even pizzas.
The permit allows 15-minutes parking
in any legal space, except handicap
and reserved spaces. Drivers must
respect the permit’s time limit.
Short-Term Parking
There are several parking
alternatives available to ensure
that visitors, vendors, and delivery
(and livery) drivers have access to campus. Use the
option that best suits your needs. If you have any
questions, call 607.255.PARK for assistance.
10-Minute Drop Off Zones
These areas (see map) require no permit to park,
but do have a 10-minute time limit. Use them to
pick-up or drop-off passengers or packages.
30-Minute Loading Zones
Most loading zones require a permit to park,
and have a time limit of 30 minutes. Loading
permits, which are also valid in any legal parking
space (except handicap or reserved spaces) for
30 minutes, are available at the booths. Use this
option when handling heavy, bulky, or hazardous
materials.
Metered Parking
Metered lot fees are in effect Monday through
Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. You don’t have to pay
the meter after 5 p.m., or on weekends. Meter rates
and time limits vary—some can be paid for up
to eight hours, and some areas have posted time
limits where exceeding the time limit or attempting
to pay the meter again could result in a ticket. See
the map for metered lot locations.
Short-Term Visitor Permits:
Four-hour and All-day Permit Areas
Four-hour visitor permits are valid for four hours
from the time of purchase. All-day visitor permits
are are valid from the time of purchase until 7:30
a.m. the following day.
Visitor permits are valid in all short-term parking
areas (see map). Please note that most short-term
parking is located on the perimeter of campus,
Vendor and Maintenance Permits
These permits are issued to tradespeople and
businesses that need access to campus to perform
various duties. Contact our office for complete
information about permit eligibility, privileges,
restrictions, and annual cost.
Special Parking Needs
Handicap Permits
Please inform our staff if you need handicapaccessible parking. You will be directed to the
nearest available handicap space convenient to
your destination.
You will need to display a Cornell-issued visitor
permit along with your state-issued handicap plate
or placard. If you choose to park in a handicapaccessible metered space, you must pay the meter.
