Name:___________________________________________________Date:________________Period:__ Name:___________________________________________________ Cell Structure Project Purpose: demonstrate your knowledge of the parts of a cell through a project. Directions: working with your partner (assigned by the teacher), select one of the prompts listed below. Follow each of the rubrics attached for full credit. Cell City Directions: using posterboard, create a “city” with each building or part of the city representing an organelle of the cell. Here is a list of analogies you can use, but you can also create your own. Draw actual buildings! For each building (organelle), provide a short complete sentence description of its purpose in the cell (make sure you label the name of the proper organelle too). Include all of the following organelles. FOLLOW THE RUBRIC Cell Organelles City Buildings Cell Membrane City border Cell Wall City Wall Cytoplasm Lawns Endoplasmic Reticulum Highway or road system, Train system Ribosomes Lumber or brick yard Golgi Bodies Post Office or UPS Chloroplasts Solar Energy Plants Mitochondria Power Plants Nucleus City Hall Lysosomes Recycling Plants Vacuole Warehouses, water towers Cell City Rubric Organelles Descriptions Creativity Neatness Postrer board Team work 5 points All of the organelles listed are provided. All descriptions are accurate and in complete sentences. Cell is drawn like a city, but proper organelle names are also included. Cell is drawn neatly and colored. Proper poster board is used. Partners demonstrate that they have worked together evenly. Total:________________/30 3 points 1-2 of the organelles are missing. 1-2 descriptions are inaccurate or not in complete sentences. Proper organelle names are not included. 1 point 3 or more organelles are missing. 3 or more descriptions are inaccurate or not in complete sentences. Cell is not drawn as a city. Cell is not drawn neatly. Cell is not colored. Improper poster board is used (see teacher with questions) One partner appears to have spent more time than the other. No poster board is used. One partner does the entire project. Cell Model Directions: create a 3D model of a cell including all of the organelles listed below. Neatly label the organelles on the model. You can use virtually any materials you want, but it must look professional. (see me for ideas, I MAY be able to provide SOME of the materials). Finally, provide a “key” with short descriptions of the following organelles (1-3 sentences) Cell Organelles Cell Membrane Cell Wall Cytoplasm Endoplasmic Reticulum Ribosomes Golgi Bodies Chloroplasts Mitochondria Nucleus Lysosomes Vacuole Cell Model Rubric Organelles Description Key Materials Labels Neatness 5 points All of the organelles listed are provided. All descriptions are accurate and in complete sentences. Materials accurately portray the different parts of the cell. All of the Organelles are labeled. Model is neat and demonstrates maximum effort. Team work Partners demonstrate that they have worked together evenly. Total:________________/30 3 points 1-2 of the organelles are missing. 1-2 descriptions are inaccurate or not in complete sentences. Materials are inaccurate or missing. 1-2 of the organelles are not labeled. Model shows strong effort but can be neater. One partner appears to have spent more time than the other. 1 point 3 or more organelles are missing. 3 or more descriptions are inaccurate or not in complete sentences. Materials poorly describe the parts of a cell. 3 or more of the oorganelles are not labeled. More effort needed. One partner does the entire project. Cell PowerPoint Directions Create a PowerPoint presentation that accurately describes the different organelles found in a cell and present this information to the class. DO NOT READ FROM THE SLIDES. Include all of the organelles listed below and a picture for each. This portion will require access to a computer, which I will not be able to provide. Each organelle is on its own slide. Each slide has 3 bullet points, not in complete sentences. 3 points 1-2 of the organelles are missing. 1-2 slides have multiple organelles or bullet points in complete sentences. Less than 3 bullet points on each slide. Presenters spend more time glancing at the PowerPoint than they do looking at the audience and occasionally read directly from the powerpoint. . 1-2 slides do not have pictures. 1 point 3 or more organelles are missing. 3 or more slides have multiple organelles or bullet points in complete sentences. Less than 3 bullet points on each slide. Presenters read directly from the PowerPoint for the entire presentation. PowerPoint is missing a title or all of the pictures do not have proper web addresses cited. Partners demonstrate One partner appears to that they have worked have spent more time together evenly. Both than the other. One partners speak evenly in partner speaks much presentation. more than the other. Picture websites are not included. Presentation Presenters use the PowerPoint as a guide and speak to the audience. Pictures Each slide contains an accurate picture of the organelle. PowerPoint has a title and a page which lists all of the websites used to get pictures. Sources and Title Team work Total:_________/30 3 or more slides do not have pictures. One partner does the entire project. One partner does not speak at all. Cell Song Directions: with your partner, write a song the accurately describes all of the organelles listed below. You must sing this song to the class! The song can be from any genre, but please do not include any fowl language or adult themes. Please provide a typed copy of your lyrics.
