Expectations for Creating an Acrostic Poem
Objective: In the story Opera, Karate, and Bandits, the author shares a special relationship with his grandmother. Choose a parent,
grandparent, sibling, another relative, neighbor, or older friend who is important to you. Recall a special time you have shared with that
person. Create an acrostic poem that demonstrates your understanding of the story Opera, Karate, and Bandits and central idea and your
knowledge of poetry.
Directions:
1. Your poem must follow these directions and contain the following elements:
a. Poem has a subject/topic pertaining to memories of someone important to you
b. Poem is typed
c. Poem is mounted on construction paper provided
d. Poem follows the proper pattern (as outlined on worksheets provided)
e. Poem has at least ONE graphic/decoration illustrating subject/topic
f. Poem is neat and organized
g. On the back of poem write your name (first and last) and Reading class period
2. You may use the following materials in creating your poem:
a. Construction paper provided by Mrs. Woodhall
b. Pencils
c. Markers
d. Colored Pencils
e. Ruler
f. Glue
g. Magazines/Newspapers
h. Computer
i. Other materials approved by Mrs. Woodhall

4. This rubric must be turned in with your poem on Friday in Reading class. Replacements will be given along with 10% deduction of points.
