COURSE OUTLINE
Audio Production II
Course Description
MC 171. Audio Production II. 3 hours credit. Prerequisite: MC 170 with C or better.
This course will enable the student to achieve an intermediate understanding of modern
audio production technology and applications. The student will apply production,
planning and scriptwriting skills to the creation of specific aural programming types in
both studio and field situations. The student will develop short and long-format projects
using all methods of audio production common in recording studio and
independent/non-station related distribution models.

Woodhall, W., Audio production and postproduction. Sudbury, MA: Jones & Bartlett
Learning.

The intention is for the student to be able to
1. Execute intermediate level entertainment and information programming, including
performance, component selection and supporting paperwork.
2. Execute intermediate level long-format programming, including performance and
scripts.
3. Identify common situations associated with, and responses to, recording studio and
independent producer operations.

learn to effectively use audio editing systems.

1. Creating a portfolio of pre-produced programming segments, along with supporting
paperwork, that demonstrates the student’s audio production ability.

2. Writing a 3-page analysis of two common situations associated with recording studio
or independent producer operations, including appropriate responses and possible
consequences.

Learning Activities
Learning activities will be assigned to assist the student to achieve the intended learning
outcomes through lecture, instructor-led demonstrations, group activities, individual
activities and other activities at the discretion of the instructor.
Grade Determination
The student will be graded on learning activities and assessment tasks. Grade
determinants may include the following: class participation, tests, pre-recorded
projects, student self-evaluations, portfolios and special projects. Other methods may
be used at the discretion of the instructor.
