Spanish for the Agricultural Sciences can help you get where you want to go. As the number of native speakers in the workforce rises, Spanish proficiency is becoming more important than ever for agricultural professionals. With four industry-specific courses, a month-long immersion experience in Costa Rica, and a summer internship, you can learn and practice the language skills you need for your career. Spanish courses created specifically for Ag Sciences students. Is the Spanish for the Agricultural Sciences program at Penn State right for ME? Immersion Experience in Costa Rica See waterfalls, rainforests, and volcanoes during a four-week immersion experience starting in early May. Students live with host families, take Spanish classes at Costa Rican language school, and participate in activities like agricultural site visits, weekend trips, community service, and national park tours. in Costa Rica Authentic cultural experiences and greater familiarity with native Spanish help prepare you for a summer internship where you can use what you’ve learned. HOW TO REGISTER CLASSES Fall or spring semester: • SPAN 105 (4 credits). First course of Register for SPAN 105 or SPAN 106, the four-course sequence, primarily for depending on your Spanish competency students who have had little to no prior (see course descriptions for details). experience studying Spanish. The following spring semester: • SPAN 106 (4 credits). Prerequisite: Sign up for INTAG 499A to complete the SPAN 105 or placement exam arranged three-course program, then register for and administered by course instructor. the INTAG 499B immersion experience. • INTAG 499A (2 credits). Prerequisite: SPAN 105 and/or SPAN 106. Prerequisite course for students planning to participate in INTAG 499B. • INTAG 499B (1 credit). Prerequisite: INTAG 499A. Includes a four-week immersion experience at the end of the spring semester. During the immersion experience, students live with Costa Rican families while they study and experience the language, culture, and agricultural industries of Costa Rica.
