Blackboard Learn is available on the test server at http://bbtest.stlcc.edu and you will use your
“MySTLCC ID” and password to log in and view a sampling of your courses. If you are new to STLCC
this spring semester, and do not see any courses when you log in, please contact your campus Center for
Teaching and Learning to request the creation of a practice shell.

Try It! Explore the following Assignment features:
1. Why should I create Assignments?
Assignments significantly increase the level of student-faculty and student-content engagement in your course.
When you add an Assignment, a direct link is created to a graded column in the Grade Center. You can determine
if the response will be awarded points or you can apply a Complete/Incomplete status to the column to confirm
that the student responded to the instructional content. Assignments can be created in any course content area.
2. What types of Assignments can be created?
Virtually any type of instructional material can be incorporated into an Assignment item. Would you like to
confirm whether students are actually viewing the PowerPoint lectures that you have posted? Add the PowerPoint
file to an Assignment item and then require the students to submit responses to summary questions. You can also
add images, video/audio links from the streaming server, Films on Demand links from the library database or a
YouTube mashup.
You can also upload documents that the student must save to their computer, complete and then submit for
grading. Creating Assignments helps you manage documents that students might have otherwise emailed as an
attachment.
3. Practice creating an Assignment
Review the Getting Started with Assignments document and follow the steps on page 2 to add an Assignment
to your course on the Blackboard Test server.
Using the Assignments feature in Blackboard promotes being “Green” by reducing the amount of paper printed.
Feedback and comments for any assignment can be returned to the student electronically!
