Dear Merchant,
Thank you for your interest in becoming part of the BruinCard family! As a potential BruinCard business,
we’d like to inform you of the card’s many features and the abundant marketing opportunities that come with
this affiliation.
BruinCard is not just a multipurpose identification card but rather the passport to life at UCLA for students,
faculty, staff and affiliated guests. In addition to being a library card, recreation center card and access card, it
can also be used as a pre-paid debit card at eateries and shops on and off campus. Cardholders simply have
to deposit money to their BruinCard account to utilize this debit feature.
Because BruinCard is used by virtually everyone at UCLA, there are many promotional opportunities at staff
events, student orientations and various other events. Our marketing team participates in these events to
showcase all BruinCard affiliated merchants, which tends to increase BruinCard use, making it a mutually
beneficial opportunity for BruinCard and our merchants.
Each oncoming merchant must take the following steps to accept BruinCard at their location:

Complete the Merchant Agreement.
Agree to the terms set forth in the Merchant Agreement.
Purchase and install a VeriFone Tranz 380X2 card reader from Vital Merchant Services or from your
bank or other sources.
In exchange for the service provided by the University (including operation of card program, account
management, promotional activities, etc.) the merchant must agree to pay 4% service charge on BruinCard
sales to the University. The University provides payment to the merchant on a weekly basis. Additional
terms are explained in the Agreement.
Once you have your equipment, it takes about 2-3 business days to schedule a technician to complete the
