Contracts Sections D-1 and D-2 Richard Neumann Be Sure to Get the Right Contract Rules Supplement (See the syllabus, page 2.) A new edition of the rules supplement has just been published. The current law school booklist shows the new edition, but earlier versions of the booklist show the old one. Buy — Do NOT buy — the new edition, which has a blue and tan cover that says 2015–2016 Rules of Contract Law the old edition, which has a red and yellow cover that says 2012–2013 Rules of Contract Law Some sellers, such as Amazon, list both editions on their websites. Be careful which one you order. Returning a book to a merchant: If you have already bought the old 2012–2013 edition, ask the merchant who sold it to you to take it back for a refund. The merchant should be willing to do that — if you have not written in it. Shrinkwrap: Some merchants might insist that a returned book still be in the shrinkwrap. If your merchant does that and if you have already removed the shrinkwrap, ask the merchant to make an exception on the ground the new edition was published on July 27. Effective lawyers know that the best way to ask is to be reasonable and respectful while giving good reasons why your request should be granted. There’s no guarantee the merchant will do what you want, but lawyers know that it never hurts to ask.
