High-touch in high-tech: MIS Solutions means business
by Myra McElhaney
A high-touch business
in a high-tech industry
is more than a cliché
for MIS Solutions, Inc.
From the friendly, customer focused tone
of the website to company president, Jennifer Holmes, giving her
direct phone number
to clients, the company
values of integrity, teamwork and respect are
integrated into everyday business.
MIS Solutions,
Inc. was started
in 1995 to help small businesses get the
most out of their business technology.
Founded by her husband, Lliam who
serves as CEO, Jennifer joined the company in 2000 after years of working as a
research microbiologist.
Based on experience in a variety
of workplace situations, Jennifer and
Lliam believe it is important to foster a
good working environment and invest
in relationships. They committed to
creating a fun, challenging atmosphere
that puts people first.
New customers and prospects receive
what clients call a “WOW” kit containing an assortment of information such
as newsletters, recordings of telesemi-
nars, articles and a mouse pad. The box
itself announces the company’s operating principles and business values and
includes a Client Bill of Rights and a
large certificate announcing their 100
percent money back guarantee.
“I think any service business must
maintain customer intimacy,” Jennifer says. MIS looks for companies that
share similar values and want a strategy
for IT. “We don’t want clients who just
call us when it’s broken,” she says. “Hiring technical people who can connect
with the customers is essential,” says
Jennifer, explaining why they often review 400-800 resumes to find technical
people who communicate well and have
great interpersonal skills. Tech calls go
directly to the engineers who handle
the problems. MIS stands for Managing
Information Systems but some customers refer to them as “Mission Impossible Services” because they are known
for getting to the root of problems to
resolve them where others have failed.
Jennifer believes the competitive advantage of personal touch is the reason
“Hiring technical
people who can
connect with
the customers is
essential.”
- Jennifer Holmes,
president of MIS Solutions
they have continued to grow and thrive
in this economy and have a base of
long-standing, loyal clients. Webinars,
executive briefings and newsletter articles help to connect with clients and
educate them about new developments
and technologies. On June 22, Jennifer
and Lliam will do a webinar on how
business owners can use cloud computing to lower costs.
Their book, The Executive Guide to
Hassle Free IT: The Ultimate Small Business
Owner’s Guide for Finding a Professional,
Competent, Honest, Considerate, On-time,
Fairly-priced and Dependable Consultant
is scheduled for release later this year.
