FROM THE MOTHERS’ GUILD PRESIDENT
November seems like it should be a pretty calm month, with everyone settled in and Christmas almost two
months away, but it is far from calm around the XCP campus. With the auction only weeks away, the
excitement is building. The donations are coming in (have you sent in yours??), the field is being prepped for
the tent, the food committee has done their taste tasting, and our wonderful chairman, Kathryn Piskulick is
silently going crazy. A Night at the Nutcracker is going to be fantastic!! This is such a wonderful way to
support Xavier. I hope all of you have gotten your reservations in. But in order to make this a successful
event, we need extra help in setting up and helping the night of the event. Even if you haven’t signed up for
anything in particular, please just show up on Thursday and Friday (the 8th & 9th) and pitch in to help. This is
just as much fun as the event itself.

The fall is well underway and it’s that time again for us here at Phoenix Sister
Cities, to recruit the best and brightest sophomores and juniors of Phoenix for
the Youth Ambassador Exchange Program of 2008. During these times of
increased international awareness, it’s very important for the youth of Phoenix to
learn about and experience firsthand the lifestyles and values of other cultures.
Serving as a Youth Ambassador is a once in a lifetime opportunity where the
students engage in a six week long international exchange program; three weeks
abroad and three weeks at home, hosting over the summer. We are presently
seeking well rounded, globally minded, and mature individuals to apply for the
program. Also just a reminder that all sophomore and junior students currently
residing in the city of Phoenix are eligible to apply (they do not need to be
enrolled in a city of Phoenix school). Though the cut-off date to submit the
application may seem far away, with the busy schedules we all have, the
December 7, 2007 application deadline is fast approaching. Enclosed you will find
a copy of the application, sample teacher evaluation form, program calendar,
promo card, and a program overview. Additionally, if we haven’t already done
so, we welcome the opportunity to personally present the information to both
interested students and parents. If you would like to arrange a meeting, just
contact us at the number or e-mail listed below. Furthermore, please feel free to
copy and distribute the forms to any sophomore or junior students that would be
ideal candidates for this program and encourage them to apply. You can get the
application online at www.phoenixsistercities.org or you may contact the Youth &
Education Program Manager, Misty Cisneros, at 602-5347359 or at Misty.
Cisneros@phoenix.gov. Thank you for your support and feel free to contact us if
we can be of further assistance.

From the desk of Sr. Lynn Winsor BVM
Vice Principal and Athletic Director
The first quarter at Xavier is over. Soon we move into November and the
time of Thanksgiving. Our new Baby Gators and transfer students are
now in the swing of Xavier life and all are adjusting to XCP in fine fashion.
Again as in 2006, Xavier was named as one of the
Academic Category Leaders in the 50 Best Catholic High
Schools in the USA. Great job faculty and students.
On Monday, November 12, Xavier’s 7th St. entrance will be closed to
traffic from 8:30am to 1:00pm due to the Veterans Day Parade on 7th
Street. The only way to enter XCP during those hours will be from 3rd St.
Xavier events coming up are the Junior Class Prayer Day on Nov.16, the
Holiday Dinner & Auction on Saturday, Nov. 10th and of course, 8th grade
Day on Nov.2nd. We expect 900 8th graders to visit our campus.
The National Honor Society is again sponsoring the
canned food drive. We hope to collect over 30,000 cans
for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. They count on Xavier
to fill their pantry for the holidays.
This years Fall Musical “My Fair Lady” was superb. The cast, crew,
technical theater students, ushers, sets, sound and lighting crews as well
as supporting musicians all received rave reviews. In my 34 years at
Xavier, I’d rate it right at the top.
On November 1st, Bishop Olmsted will be here on campus to celebrate
the All Saints Day Mass. We are excited to have him with us. At that
Mass, the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary here in Phoenix are
beginning a year of celebration of the BVM’s 175th anniversary of their
founding.
In November also, the Xavier Classes of 1967 & 1999 are having their
class reunions. We are excited to have them back.
On behalf of all of Xavier faculty, staff, administration and coaches I wish
you a wonderful Thanksgiving. We thank God for all you do for Xavier.

Thanks are in order to Doug Cole who was in charge of the October 13th Dads’ Club
Father/Daughter Mass and Breakfast. As a man who manages to be in two places at
once via his cell phone and email, he did another fantastic job coordinating this annual
event.
Thanks also go to Tom Cecil and Glenn Davis who coordinated the Dads’ Club

Our Xavier Dads’ Club goes the extra mile to create events that bring fathers and
