Classified Staff Council Meeting July 31, 2008 Those present: Bill Hardee, Loran Morgan, Janet Heaton, Terri Philpott, Carolyn Cox, and Lynnis Hill. 1. We asked Trish Harmon, Financial Aid Director, to come and talk with us about our Scholarship information. She was very helpful and gave us some suggestions on changes to the wording because of the proposed tuition waiver and answered several questions for us. We will take the information we gained and send our suggestions to Amy as soon as possible. All changes to our document are pending the approval of, and wording of, the Tuition Waiver Policy for Concord University Employees and Dependents which has yet to be established by the Administration. 2. Several of us have looked at the Report on the Professional Development Study information and it seems that some of the issues are as follows: many of these initiatives take place during the day when some people cannot attend; that there is no way to incorporate or tie your participation in these initiatives into raises; the use of web-based training is a plus in that it costs less and can be taken at more convenient times; it mandates that there are coordinators at each institution (HR) and we don’t have one for CU; and this program is administered by an individual not on the campuses but in Charleston. 3. We discussed making some changes in the power point. Janet will work on updating some of the percentages and figures and an e-mail will be sent out to see if anyone’s education level has changed so that we can update that page. There is a need to incorporate experience factors in the report also if there is a way to do it. 4. We need to establish a set of goals for classified staff. Everyone’s input will be beneficial in determining what we are expecting and where we are going in the future. Lynnis will e-mail the staff for suggestions and from them we will develop a Classified Mission Statement. Terri Philpott said we are entering the “Dawn of a New Day”on campus and what better way to accept this challenge and build morale than by setting goals and objectives to work on as a team. We know improving salaries, creating a flexible work schedule, and enhancing and supporting the mission of the new administration are only a few of our goals. There are surely more. Goals and objectives should be sent to Lynnis on or before August 7th so that we can create a Mission Statement to present to the BOG on August 20th. 5. Lynnis passed out copies of the Transit Expansion Proposal for review. Lynnis Hill
