The Canterbury Tales: Narrative Writing Assignment
A. Write a story that is between 400 and 600 words in length. It must be typed or
neatly hand-written in blue or black ink.
The story will serve these two purposes:
1. It must be entertaining (which does not mean it must be funny).
2. It must illustrate good morals.
Your story may be original or adapted from a previously written story or actual
event.
If the story comes from another source, you must do the following:
1. Give credit to the original author (if not known give original story
title) at the beginning or end.
2. Rewrite the story in your own words and change key details such as
title; characters’ names, age, sex or even species; setting; or how the
story ends. Do not copy and paste!

B. Write a five-question, multiple choice quiz to check that those who hear your
story are paying attention. Make sure the questions are reasonable.
C. Memorize the story and tell it aloud to a group of four or five other students in
class.
1. Therefore, do not write anything that will be embarrassing to yourself or the
teacher. Also, do not write anything hurtful about another student.
Inappropriate topics or language will result in severe loss of point.
2. Practice your delivery to make the story fun to listen to.
